Joe Coffee Company

Joe Coffee Company Joe Coffee Company was a coffee shop located on Lexington Avenue, which first opened its doors in 2011. Over the years, they delighted customers with their delicious coffee offerings and warm ambiance.

In January 2024, the cafe shared their exciting news on social media about their presence at the new Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club at LaGuardia Airport. Travelers could enjoy a variety of beverages, including espresso, cold brew, and their exclusive Pear Coffee Cake Latte.

Just a week before that announcement, Joe Coffee encouraged customers to treat their coworkers with a box of freshly brewed coffee through their Joe To Go service. Available for order in any of their cafes or through the Joe Coffee app, these boxes were perfect for office gatherings.

During the holiday season in December 2023, Joe Coffee made sure to spread Christmas cheer. They shared limited hours for some of their open cafes on Christmas day and wished everyone celebrating a warm and wonderful holiday.

Earlier in December, they also reminded customers to take a moment to enjoy the magic of the season with each sip of their special holiday blend called Rockefeller. With notes of peanut brittle, dates, and red apple, this coffee provided a comforting and warming experience amidst the busy holiday season. Additionally, $1 from each bag sold went towards supporting New York City's largest community food pantry.

Unfortunately, as of now, Joe Coffee Company has been permanently closed.

This one started with a cupping.

Jordan Fisher came into our Park Ave Training Lab, sat down with our roasters, and worked through coffees until he found the right one. The result is Call Time - a limited-release medium roast with notes of cocoa, spice, and caramel. And Joe Coffee's first-ever coffee tin.

A lot of the people who make Joe what it is - behind the bar, behind the scenes - are artists themselves. Singers, actors, musicians, makers. That's New York. This one's for all of them.

$1 from every tin supports Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS— providing meals, medication, health care, and emergency assistance to people across the theater community and beyond. yes

Call Time is sourced from El Guayacán Smallholder Farmers in San Ignacio, Cajamarca, Peru - 300 growers in the northern highlands, where the yellow guayacán trees the coffee is named after shade the plants growing beneath them.

After nearly 23 years of building Joe with all of you, this feels like a big and meaningful moment. I’m writing with the exciting news that Lee Harrison is stepping into the role of CEO.

Lee started as a barista on opening day at our second cafe at 9 E. 13th Street, which also happened to be his 18th birthday, and has spent over 20 years growing with Joe. He’s worked across cafes, roasting, training, and operations, most recently as COO, helping shape this place in ways that are hard to put into words.

If you’ve been part of Joe at any point, there’s a good chance you’ve felt his impact. He leads with care, honesty, and a real understanding of what this place means to people.

I’m not going anywhere. I’ll be stepping into the role of Head of Growth, focused on what’s next, and I’ll be right alongside Lee as we move forward.

Joe has always been about people and the relationships we build together. That continues.

We’re both really excited for this next chapter.

Every week, Stephen — QC Roaster here at Joe — lines up samples, tastes them hot, waits for them to cool, and makes a call. That’s cupping. And it’s how the language of coffee gets built. Here, he’s doing a cupping of Montze’s Café Feminista.

When you read tasting notes like papaya, milk duds, and candied coconut, that’s not an ingredient list. It’s a description of what to expect. So no, you won’t find any milk duds in this coffee.

As Stephen puts it: “There is no coconut in it. It’s just when you taste that coffee, that’s what it reminds you of. If you like this in other foods or beverages, maybe this is something you’d actually like. It’s a way to point you toward something.”

These notes are a reflection of what Stephen and the rest of the roastery team tasted when they sat down with this coffee and really explored it.

Want to experience it for yourself? We’re opening our cuppings back up to the public and our first event is May 7th. Head to the link in bio to learn more and reserve your spot. Space is limited.

Coffee is political. That’s the foundation of Café Feminista, our new collection from two women doing extraordinary work in México.

💜 Blanca Suazo grows in Córdoba, Veracruz on land her family has farmed since 1960. For her, feminism is about removing barriers: smallholder producers owning their work and building independence in tangible ways.

🧡 Montze Olvera leads Las Adelitas, a feminist collective in Hidalgo that she founded to make visible the work of indigenous women in coffee. Her manifesto: never again a coffee without us.

Both are at the link in bio. And while you’re there, what does feminism mean to you?
