Monday is also Indigenous Peoples’ Day. The filé in our name is ground sassafras leaf, a gift from the Choctaw people that’s been thickening and flavoring gumbo for generations. Come celebrate both with us.

Two holidays, one leaf. 🍂
Monday, October 12 is National Gumbo Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day, and at Filé those two belong together. Filé (fee-lay) is ground sassafras leaf, the ingredient we’re named for and the soul of our gumbo. It came to Cajun cooks from the Choctaw people, and every bowl we serve carries that history.
So we’re celebrating both, and we’re opening for something we never do on a weekday: Monday Brunch.

Winter just got a little warmer on Church Street. 🎺🔥
We’re rolling out our new winter menu at Filé, and we’re celebrating it right: on Friday, October 2, we’re hosting An Evening with Alphonso Horne & Gotham Kings. It’s the story of jazz, from rags and stomps to shouts and funk, played live while you eat.
On the plates: Boudin Stuffed Quail Gumbo with the gumbo poured tableside, Oysters Bienville, Drumfish smothered in crawfish étouffée, and a warm Caramel Cornbread Cake to finish. You can have it all on our $65 Dinner Prix Fixe, with a w**e pairing for +$28.
Good gumbo, hot brass, New Orleans spirit in Tribeca. Seats will go fast, so reservations are highly recommended.
