You will be surprised how many people hold ill feelings towards you based on something negative someone told them about you. They never questioned the other person's motive or character and never approached you to get your side of the story.

They won't say anything, but you will notice a difference in how they handle you. When someone does this to me, it tells me they wanted or needed to believe that about me because it validates something within their own life. Me being whatever they were told solidifies the story they have been telling themselves about their own situation.

When you find yourself in this type of situation, don't waste your time attempting to get the record straight; take note of how they handle you and act accordingly. When a person behaves off of one-sided narratives (gossip), you don't owe them explanations---only distance and limited access.
