A very touching letter from our guest:

Hi Manuchar,

I just read the sad news that Pirosmani is closed. I wanted to reach out to let you know how special that restaurant was. I only went a few times, but each time left a deep impression.

One time someone working (maybe it was you?) explained various motifs and their significance painted into the Pirosmani murals. He also recommended my partner and I visit the country of Georgia. As you know, it's not too common for Americans to travel to Georgia considering how far and pricey it is. But whoever explained the murals planted a seed and then I continued to look into going and then finally this past month me and my partner went!

We had said when we get back to NY we will go out to Pirosmani, the restaurant, and tell whoever is working that we actually did it! We wanted to share with someone how amazing the country and the culture was. We even tried to go to the Niko Pirosmani Museum since we were familiar with the murals. We got all the way there but a sign on the door written in Georgian indicated it was closed (we think). Anyway, this email will have to suffice.

I am so sorry the restaurant had to close. I will leave you with two curious questions. Any plans for another restaurant? What will you do with those masterful murals?

Best,
Rachel Golub

To All Our Valued Guests and Friends:

It is with great sadness that we announce the closing of The PIROSMANI, oldest Georgian Restaurant since 2001 at 2222 Avenue U, Brooklyn, NY.

Our lease expired and we were not able to come to an agreement with the landlord on how to move forward both during and after the pandemic. We want to thank all of our wonderful guests and employees for supporting us over these past years.

What began as a little 40 seat restaurant on Avenue U and grew into a place that had welcomed hundreds of thousands of guests and employed hundreds of people over the years.

We are extremely humbled that so many embraced our restaurant and that we were able to succeed as long as we had. For a restaurant to survive and thrive in Brooklyn for 22 years is an accomplishment of which we can all be proud. And we could not have done it without all of you.

We all mourn the loss of our favorite, authentic Georgian restaurants for they provide us with so much more than food. They provide nourishment for our soul and when they are gone, much of the soul of the Georgian Immigrants in which they resided will be gone as well.

These are one of the things that defines BEING AT HOME in our community. They are a gathering place to share accounts of our days, to celebrate big events in our lives or just share a table with our friends.

We want to say thank you again to everyone who has dined with us, whether you've been dining with us for years or just now found us. We are grateful for your continued support and loyalty, you are the direct reason for our success as we are truly humbled and honored to have served you.

We have been a part of your most treasured memories: birthday celebrations, graduation dinners, first dates, marriage proposals, engagement parties, bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, intimate wedding receptions, baby showers and celebrations of life, we have built beautiful memories together that will last us a lifetime.

However, as much as we love PIROSMANI, and seeing you walk through our doors, the most difficult decision was imposed upon us during these unprecedented times to move on. Once again, our deepest gratitude with our very best and sincerest wishes, we hope that you stay safe and take care of each other. We will miss you all so very much.
