In February 2019, Teranga opened its doors to the Harlem community at The Africa Center. From Jollof lovers to curious new eaters and everyone in between, we felt the love. Despite having no kitchen on site, our incredible team of Chefs, Managers, Servers and Team Members brimming with cultural pride, we were able to deliver award-winning food according to The New York Times (NY Times Critic’s Pick), The Infatuation (Top-25 Restaurant), and so many other media outlets. That was a testament to our dedicated team and we are extremely proud of that.
When COVID struck and all signs pointed towards shutting down, the community stepped up. Countless folks from around the City poured their love and resources into Teranga to help us deliver meals to First Responders at Mount Sinai. With all of your support, we were able to keep our team members employed and Teranga’s doors open to the community in a time of need.
It is with a sense of sadness and full hearts that we announce that we are closing our doors in Harlem on Sunday, June 15th. This is far from a goodbye as our Midtown location (601 Lexington) will continue to serve New York City, and we will be opening new Teranga locations in the near future.
Thank you to everyone who shared a cup of Ethiopian coffee, a bottle of Bissap, a plate of hot Jollof and Suya, or a side of Kelewele with us. We will host one final celebration on Saturday, June 14th and we hope to see all of your familiar and beautiful faces.
With love,
Teranga

The baobab tree is also known as the tree of life. What better way to celebrate life than with our Montclair Brewery Baobiere golden ale, a crisp, subtly tangy flavor from baobab fruit imported straight from West Africa!! Cheers!! 🍻✨
Cheers to the weekend 🍻

What people say
African restaurants are known for their unique and flavorful dishes that are inspired by tradition and designed for health. Teranga, located in New York, is a shining example of this. This African restaurant brings a fresh take on African cuisine that is sure to delight your taste buds.
Teranga is not just about the food, it's also about the community. They host events that celebrate the spirit of independence and its impact on the diaspora. Their recent African Chop House event was amazing, and they even had a new collection of curated home goods made by people of color available for purchase.
If you're looking for a date night spot, Teranga is perfect. They have a romantic atmosphere that will make your Valentine's Day special. And if you're looking for a weekend hangout spot, their Harlem location is open on Saturdays from 12 pm to 9 pm and Sundays from 12 pm to 8 pm.
Don't forget to try their specialty cocktails like Sunrise in Senegal which combines two favorite fruits in Senegal - mango and pineapple - with tequila & mezcal, cayenne syrup, and lemon juice. It's simply delicious!
Overall, Teranga is an excellent choice if you want to experience authentic African cuisine in New York while enjoying the company of friends or family in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
