When Ali Forney Center opened on Juneteenth 2002, it had six cots. They filled all of them up that very first night and had to turn twenty kids away.

Twenty years later, it’s still the largest center of its kind in the country. Potentially the world.

Bill put it best, “Pride is more than a parade, it’s a march.” And it doesn’t end when June does.

The Ali Forney Center started with a dance class almost no one came to. A choreographer asked Bill Torres — once a homeless q***r kid himself — to help fill the room. Three people showed up that first day: Bill, the choreographer, and Ali Forney.

That class grew into a talent show, a graduating moment for kids who almost never got one. The center carries Ali’s name now.

Jordan Fisher came to Joe Coffee Company with an idea. A lot of sampling, a lot of iterations, and eventually: the Triple Threat Latte — peach, espresso, and lemon turmeric cold foam.
