When Ali Forney Center opened on Juneteenth 2002, it had six cots. They filled all of them up that very first night and had to turn twenty kids away.

Twenty years later, it’s still the largest center of its kind in the country. Potentially the world.

Bill put it best, “Pride is more than a parade, it’s a march.” And it doesn’t end when June does.

The Ali Forney Center started with a dance class almost no one came to. A choreographer asked Bill Torres — once a homeless q***r kid himself — to help fill the room. Three people showed up that first day: Bill, the choreographer, and Ali Forney.

That class grew into a talent show, a graduating moment for kids who almost never got one. The center carries Ali’s name now.

More than half of the homeless youth in any major metro area are q***r — despite making up only about 4% of the population.

Bill Torres knows those kids. He was one of them. That’s why he became a founding member of the Ali Forney Center.

As we celebrate Pride, we’re making sure that when we say “it gets better,” it actually does.

Natalie started biking to a bakery as a teenager, hauling 50-lb bags of flour.

Twenty years later she’s the executive chef Colson Patisserie.

In her words: spreading a little more sweetness into the city.

Jordan Fisher on why Call Time means more than a cup of coffee.

Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS doesn’t hold your donation until the end of the quarter. It goes directly to the people who need it, when they need it — actors, artists, and everyone else who makes theater happen.

$1 from every Call Time tin goes straight there. Round up at the register and it does too.

Pick one up in cafes now.

“Juneteenth is the day freedom finally reached the people to whom it belonged.”

In her own words, Christal Harding on what this day means to her — and what she’s found here at Joe.

You saw the drink. You saw the tin. Here’s how it actually came together. 👇

Jordan Fisher came to Joe Coffee Company with an idea. A lot of sampling, a lot of iterations, and eventually: the Triple Threat Latte — peach, espresso, and lemon turmeric cold foam. The coffee came the same way. He sat down with our roasters, cupped through options, and landed on Call Time — cocoa, spice, caramel, and Joe’s first-ever tin.

Both are available now. $1 from every tin and round-ups at the register go to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Come in and give back this Pride Month. 🏳️‍🌈
