Under the leadership of Chef Alfred Portale, the restaurant received numerous accolades and awards for its exceptional cuisine. Now, after 36 years of success, Gotham has been newly owned by Bret Csencsitz and will re-open this September with Executive Chef Ron Paprocki at the helm. The next Gotham Book Event…is in Brooklyn! Join me and author on May 2 at Santa Fe BK for a labor of love that combines art, community and cuisine.

Our literary garden party celebrates Mr. Peck’s new book, “The Bright Edges of the World: Willa Cather and Her Archbishop,” about the great writer and the novel she considered her best.

The family-owned Santa Fe BK boasts the most authentic New Mexican cuisine in NYC, hand-muddled margaritas, and a picturesque space inside and out that provides a portal to Santa Fe—a place that to know is to love.

To paraphrase lyrics from “Rent,” though we are not (yet!) opening a restaurant in Santa Fe, we are excited to provide you with a taste from here while stirring your souls with the novelist who, in my view, does it best.

Yes!! Bret Csencsitz is curating a new music café at The Times Square Edition. First up, none other than the great John Cameron Mitchell on December 12 & 13!

As most of you know, “JCM” is the Tony and Sundance winner behind “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” the indelible play and movie—turning 25 this year!

We are so proud to be presenting John in The Edition’s gorgeous 701West 11th Floor space overlooking Times Square.

The debut of Gotham Jazz x Chef’s Dinner Table at 132 Mulberry was a triumph!! Link in bio for your next chance to experience our new epicurean music lounge starring Kristen Lee Sergeant’s Song Salon.

From discovering Kristen’s brilliance at Joe’s Pub in 2022 to this new chapter on Mulberry, we are honored to be presenting an artist of rare musical and intellectual powers.

Our next Song Salon on November 13 will again feature Kristen in duo with the stunning on guitar. The all-inclusive ticket offers excellent wine and bites à volonté before and after the show for unimpeded conversation and art.

We are officially "more than a place"! In our quest to keep offering a taste of New York at its best, we are now bringing the ethos of Gotham Jazz to a NEW epicurean music venue at 132 Mulberry—all thanks to the hospitality and partnership of CChef's Dinner Table NYC

Our first show will be KKristen Lee Sergeants "Song Salon," premiering TOMORROW! With Kristen's beautiful voice and songbook alongside CDT's famously excellent food and wine à volonté, we aim to move your hearts, minds, and palates in equal measure.

Gotham Jazz was perhaps THE great joy of the last leg of our journey on 12th Street. Curated by Darrell Smith and his Dal Segno Trio with David Kingsnorth and Yago Vazquez, we staged a weekly rotation of thrilling New York talents too numerous to name.

Gotham Jazz also gave us a stage that led to our multiple presentations of former Gotham somm turned astonishing singer-songwriter, Kristen Lee Sergeant, who with Ted Nash even gave us one Big Band performance for the holidays. The great Kelly Green was also a repeat muse. One night the cast of Classic Stage Company’s black odyssey took the band. We thank them all for the memories.

Our vision to provide world-class music and dining under one roof was fulfilled for a few sweet years. Next week, exactly one year after closing our doors, we reignite this vision in partnership with Chef’s Dinner Table. Next Thursday, October 16, we will cut the ribbon on an intimate music lounge in their gorgeous 5th Floor loft at 132 Mulberry. We’ll kick things off with Kristen Lee Sergeant’s Song Salon, a new show drawing on her original body of work and including first listens of new material from the mind and lips of a singular artist who was truly made in NYC.

Congratulations, Joseph! 🙌 Chef Michael White’s latest sensation, Santi, has nabbed one of New York’s most beloved maître d’s in “our” Joseph Scherr.

Joseph gave his all to Gotham for a grand total of 15 years, 2009-2020 then again 2021-2024. We couldn’t be happier for the Santi team and guests who will benefit from the masterful service training and heartfelt pomp that Joseph brought to Gotham’s table.

Bret and William celebrated a certain 15th birthday at Santi, where they had a tremendous experience of dining’s triple threat: food, service, and space. 👏👏👏

Most of all, it was heartwarming to reunion with dear Joseph and to celebrate his new work home. Go see him at Santi!

When Bret reopened Gotham in 2021, he and the intrepid worked from the ground up to rebuild a cellar worthy of our comeback. This was restorative in the truest sense, and today, as Gotham now means more than any one place, we are thrilled to be collaborating with Dumbo’s to introduce the Gotham Wine Club!

As Gotham grows into “More Than a Place,” it is a gift of this new chapter to take you beyond 12th Street for simpatico efforts by friends in food, wine, and art.

First Stop: West Village Rosé & Cabaret Dinner!

Taking place THIS Sunday we are excited to spotlight a very thoughtful soirée curated by the lovely team at . A generous apertivi and four-course market-to-table menu by Chefs Joey Campanaro and Mike Price is paired with Lisa Komara’s selection of palate-expanding rosés from expected and unexpected places.

The interactive dining experience will be serenaded by none other than our friend and former Gotham somm Kristen Lee Sergeant with Adam Birnbaum on keys and Luques Curtis on base. Kristen will be sharing a first listen of her forthcoming concept album, “Rosé Days,” destined to be music’s most artful ode to wine yet. Get ready to drink it up.

It has been six months since we closed our doors on 12th Street. After 40 years Gotham was no longer the neighborhood destination it had been, and NYC is a changed city. 
 
The place was beautifully designed, twice, by James Biber, once in 1984 and again in 2021 for our post-pandemic reopening, which was an endeavor of love for me and many of those around me, including the original Gotham partners and new partners. To Jim and to so many who encouraged and supported this effort we are grateful, including Gotham’s final team, a number of whom preceded my own arrival in 2007.
 
Gotham remains a place in memory, reputation, and imagination, so we continue our sense of place with the “Gotham Journal” to chronicle culinary and cultural efforts in and around our grand city. Please stay in touch by subscribing at our home page (link in bio).
 
Literally and figuratively, I climbed many a ladder over the years to keep Gotham at its best, and I left a piece of myself at 12 East 12 Street, even as I began a new chapter in Midtown where I oversee operations for Chef John Fraser at The Edition Hotel, Times Square. Please visit me for a drink before your next Broadway show, or take in one of our shows with dinner at The Paradise Club.
