Attention: Alvie and Maggie are some of the cutest cats we’ve ever seen ever, and they need to find a forever or foster home together!

Alvie (grey) is a literal plush teddy bear. He is a goofy, silly boy who loves to snack, and loves his people and his sister. He is just full of love, and look at his little ear tufts!

Maggie (calico) is as cute as a button, and is a gentle, friendly little lady! She is just as soft and silly as her brother, but is a bit more graceful and dainty (he’s kind of a big dork).

Tiny kitten siblings Sardine (black & white) and Tetra (grey & white) need a forever or foster home together before we close on July 31st!

Sardine is such a chill and laid back little man. He is easy to scoop up and snuggle and does not mind being absolutely covered in kisses on his little head. He is very brave and friendly!

Tetra is a little princess who is OBSESSED with spring toys and bouncy balls! She is very soft and likes to be pet behind the ears.

Loving & intelligent Checker needs to find a forever or foster home!

Checker has been with us for a year and a half. He just turned two years old! He is such a sweet and smart baby boy.

Checker is the only boy in a litter of six kittens. His sisters were adopted, and we don’t know why it’s taken him so long to find a home, as he’s a perfect cat.

Checker loves to sit in laps, and he loves (REALLY loves) wand toys! He is cuddly and playful and sweet, while also independent, smart, and super laid back. Sometimes he sits like a rotisserie chicken, so we like to call him Checker Chicken. We think he might secretly be a little guy in a very convincing cat costume.

With less than 2 months until Koneko closes its doors, we would really love to find a forever home for gentle and sweet siblings Lyric and Sonnet, who have been with us since last summer! 💛

Sonnet has one of the most adorable little orange faces we’ve ever seen. He is very playful and is quite the sweet young gentleman. He has tiny pink toe beans and a freckle on his nose, and he loves to sunbathe.

Lyric is a gorgeous torbie who will sing for her dinner and loves to curl up next to you on the couch. She is super chill and doesn’t mind being carried like a baby. She likes to sit upside down in your lap and gently have her tummy scratched.

These two love each other very much. They are always grooming each other, and love to play wrestle! They are an adorable pair. If you can’t adopt, please consider fostering!

As we begin planning for our closure at the end of July, our main priority is finding adopters (ideally!) or foster placements for all of our 19 remaining cats. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be making a dedicated post for each cat and bonded pair that is currently at Koneko, in order of length of stay. ❤️

Our longest-staying residents, Bonnie and Sugar, are 2 years and 8 months old, and have been with us since 2024. Bonnie (black & white) and Sugar (tabby) are best friends, and the silliest, sweetest, most entertaining girls around.

Bonnie is such a character! She is freaking hilarious. She is affectionate, smart, and driven. She thinks she is still a baby (and who are we to tell her otherwise?) and likes to suck on thumbs like they are baby bottles. She likes to sit in laps and follows her favorite people everywhere.

Sugar is a sweet little angel! She loves to be talked to and will roll around on her back when she sees you come in the room and you say her name. She is chill, soft, and loves to hang out and play. She has the cutest tiny little crunchy quiet meow.

Their nicknames are Bonnifer, Bonnana, Nanners, and Bonbon, and Shagooga, Shoog, Sugarbooger, and Sillysugar. Swipe to the end to see some tiny baby pics. We love them so so much. We’re sharing some hard news today: after 11 years, Koneko will be closing its doors this summer. Our last day open to the public will be July 31st. 
Koneko began with one mission, and it never changed: to help rescue cats find loving forever homes. 
We wanted that mission to live inside something joyful - a place that celebrated cats and cat people alike: playful and serious, meme-y and thoughtful, meticulous but not pretentious. We took a risk and aimed big in a city where just about everything feels like it’s been done - and looking back, we’re not quite sure how it all came together. Only that it did, and that it’s been a beautiful run. 
To everyone who poured their time, energy, talent, and heart into Koneko - staff past and present, volunteers, fosters, donors - thank you. Koneko has always been made possible by the people who showed up with intention and real care - for the cats, and for one another.

We’re especially grateful to our two longtime rescue partners, and , who quietly do difficult and vital work that most people never see. We’ve been lucky to work with them.

And to everyone who walked through our doors - whether you adopted, marked a milestone here, brought the people you love, or just spent an afternoon with the cats - thank you. Your support helped so many cats find loving homes, and kept this little corner of New York going for more than a decade.

We’ll have more to share in the coming weeks. For now: we’re grateful to have been part of so many lives. 💛
