September at El Mitote means celebrating Mexico’s Independence Month — and this month, that means three dishes made just for the occasion.
Sopes Tricolor — three masa sopes topped with refried beans, white cabbage, red and green salsas, crema, and cotija cheese, representing the colors of the Mexican flag.
Pipián Verde — oven-roasted chicken breast bathed in a green mole made with pumpkin seeds, tomatillo, epazote, and cilantro, served with refried beans and red rice.
Otón’s Sopita — a hearty beef stew simmered in rich bone broth with guaje, tomatillo, and cilantro, chayote, carrots, corn on the cob, and Mexican zucchini, served with tortillas.

This spring, we’re joining the Metropolitan Opera for a citywide celebration of Mexican culture and the legacy of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.
At El Mitote, we’re celebrating the moment with our Paloma, made with Yola mezcal, grapefruit soda, and agave — bright, smoky, and made for the night.
In honor of the premiere of El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego, on stage May 14 through June 5.
