cried because there was too much to explain .

I didnt have the words to explore how my rum cake business had healed me.🙏

How in 2016 while working as a teacher I was administratively harassed and terminated ---without cause.

This letter is from the investigating agency and gave me permission to file a federal lawsuit challenging my unfair termination.

I submitted over 30 pieces of evidence- when that new principal came I was an effective teacher and he used his observations and reports to paint me as otherwise.

Well I prayed and God told me not to file a lawsuit, He had something better to give me. In the end I would have double for my trouble, God said.🙂

And so when that Complainer began to make noise about the NYTimes article that featured my business it was all too much to explain--- I couldn't find the words, it was a full circle moment

I used to worry about goals that I didnt accomplish, things I wanted but never seemed able to obtain.

But one thing I have learned is that life sometimes is like baking a cake. You use the tools you have, find available ingredients life itself will add the heat and pressure 🤣. After a while when you look at it, you have made something beautiful. 🙂❤️🌺

Welcome to Part III of I cried because there was too much to say.

So the Complainer in the group of 9 pitch contest winners objected to the fact that the NY Times articles featured some winners more than others. Since it mainly featured my story more than the others. I took it personally. I didnt say anything at the time.

But in secret I cried because there was too much to say. When I started out in business I did not have a storefront or a stall not even an online store. I sold at street markets and pop up holiday fairs, face to face with customers. It was my thing so hubby helped out sometimes with a little money here and there but I was on my own initially.

This meant that I prepared the food, packaged it, stored it and transported it by bus or cab. Just look at the photos.
At times looked like a bag lady....I began ubering tyears later.

One of the line in a Buju Banton song says " you see the glamor and glitter and think its a bed of rose".

It was and is not glamorous, a food business can be hard, grueling, messy work. For years anyone who knows me knows I dont wear nail tips or carry long nails. My husband replaced my diamond wedding ring with a plain band because one day while removing food gloves in the kitchen where we baked the ring came off with the glove and ended up in the garbage.

We eventually found it, but spent hours searching.

I congratulate and appreciate all the Pitch contest winners, food hustlers and everyone out here trying to make a dollar better themselves. Without knowing a person's story I would never try to take away another person's 💐.

Join me next week for Part 4 of "I Cried Because there was too much to Say "

In business like in relationships we look for 'flags' - red or green ....also called indicators. The 2nd slide is a review we received from a corporate client - an organization called Start Small Think Big. It is from 2017 -- 7 years ago.
Weve been selling holiday rum cake for 10 years and have learnt so much about what is possible. A little encouragement goes a long way and as small as it seem this review was one indicator which told us that were on the right track.

You can never know too much or learn too much. Entrepreneurship is tricky, it never hurts to take a few classes.❤️🌺🙏

All Hail to Ms.Gwenny & Ms.Gatta

If you see me outside in my "tie-head" please know that I am on the hustle.🤣. I am baking, cooking, prepping, packing up or getting ready for market.

Ms.Gwenny was my grandmother's friend who had a stall in Black River market. Ms Gatta was the wife of Uncle Fudu a distant relative of ours who rode his bicycle from Middle Quarters to Black River every once in a while.

These 2 hardworking women were some of my 1st role models as entrepreneurs....and they wore tie heads. In fact, so did my Granny.

Whenever I feel like its too much work to get ready for a day of selling at a Fair or Market I think about my grandmother or Ms. Gwenny & Ms. Gatta...i put on my tie head and jump in
😂🤣😅..FUN FACT -- I like tie heads and wear them whenever I feel like.
Big up to all the Ms Gatta and Ms Gwenny's out there.

Welcome to Part 2 of " I Cried Because there was too much to Say ". Last week I started the series by explaining how when one of the other winners began complaining about how the NY Times article was written it focused on 4 out of 9 winners and zeroed in on my story.

Truth is I could have explained how one one cocoa full basket but the person would not have understood that my Granny for who the business is named taught me that little by little step by step we can break down big tasks.

They say hindsight is 20/20 because I could have also explained how this business helped me to offset homelessness and rejection. But hey, we will get into that next week in part 3 of " I cried because there was too much to say "
