We’ve got an incredible lineup of artists for our Kimbap & Art Happy Hour on 5/1 with Kimbap Lab x Pearl River Mart. We’ll be highlighting them in the lead-up to the event.
First up is Ben Hon (), a good friend of Dan.
Ben is a New York–based photographer whose work sits at the intersection of food and people. His photography goes beyond the plate, focusing on the moments, environments, and individuals that shape how we experience a meal.
He’s photographed for The Food Network and Bon Appétit, and has worked with brands like Google and Rémy Martin but at its core, his work is about the people and stories behind the food.
Come spend some time with Ben’s work in person.
Fun fact: one of the first times Dan met Ben was actually at an event Ben shot featuring Kimbap Lab, before Dan was even part of the team!

Hi everybody. Kimbap Lab was started four years ago by Chef Wonil and me to celebrate Korean comfort foods and our Korean heritage. However last week, that pride was overshadowed by pain and sorrow. We grieved at the senseless killings of eight people, six of them Asian-American women.
For me, this hideous act in Atlanta hit particularly close to home. Not only have I, like all Asian-American women, experienced racism and sexism, but my mother raised me and my two siblings as a single mother. I saw the sacrifices she made for our family and can attest how extremely difficult it was for her. It breaks my heart that these women were doing the same for their families, but were gunned down for no reason other than their race.
Violence and hatred for Asian-Americans (and other POCs) has no place in our society. We stand together with the rest of the AAPI community and our allies in denouncing racial violence, especially amongst the elderly and women.
With this in mind, Kimbap Lab will be donating to and , two of the many organizations supporting the AAPI community.
If you’d like to help, you could donate to those organizations as well. You can also purchase a Baker’s Box which features the pastries from a variety of talented female chefs, bakers, and entrepreneurs (including our dear friend of ). The proceeds from that box will go to .
While last week was filled with unspeakable tragedy and pain, we also are hopeful that change is happening, one that will make the world a better place.
Sarah
