The Well

The Well The Well, a popular beer garden housed in the historic Edward Hittleman/Goldenrod Brewery, offered one of the largest selections of craft beer in New York City. With 60 on-tap and 200 bottled options, including gluten-free choices, ciders, and wines, it appealed to both seasoned enthusiasts and new drinkers alike. The bar's stunning backyard, cornhole games, and board games were just some of the reasons why it was well-loved by its patrons. Unfortunately, The Well has been permanently closed.

Beloved friends and family,

It’s with the deepest heartbreak that we officially announce The Well will not be reopening, and will thus remain closed for good.

It may come as no surprise that the insurmountable financial pressure placed upon the business due to the COVID-19 crisis has forced our hand. The team wanted nothing more than to party with you again when the risks were behind us and the city had fully reopened, but the future of nightlife in NYC is too uncertain for us to see a path forward.

To those who we saw regularly for a fresh beer, a rare beer, a cheap beer, stopped in before and after band practice, came to any of our massive back yard parties, came to see a friend perform music or comedy in No Vacancy, produced an event with us, had a date here, had a birthday here, came to a wedding or got married here, came to a beer festival or event, came to a can release, came to one of our brewer panels, attended a fundraiser, signed up for an open mic night, watched the Presidential debates with us, watched RuPaul here, painted a mural, stopped in to view the murals, attended our trivia nights, or just wandered in at 2am on a Saturday for shots and to use the bathroom-thank you all for making this place so special for the last 8 years! We’re proud to have been part of such an amazing and diverse community.

As you know, the effects of the pandemic have been devastating to our industry. Sadly, we aren’t the first and won’t be the last to close our doors. Please support your local small businesses however you can. They need it right now.

It may take a long time, but our city will recover from this. We sincerely hope that our paths cross sooner than later.

Be seeing you.

A deep, heartfelt, thunderous thank you to all who donated to our gofundme page. We were all moved beyond words, and can’t tell you how much we appreciated the help. Hugs and high-fives when we are allowed again! This may be the last pic of most of our core staff together from our trip to Richmond last November to pick up beer for the bar’s 5th anniversary. Seems like a lifetime ago. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Our front gate was wearing a mask before it was cool. 😜 Thinking of all our friends and fam out there, and hoping you’re all safe and healthy. Fingers crossed we can get back to partying with you after we’ve beaten this thing.

Calling on all friends and family of The Well.⠀

The staff needs your help. ⠀

Starting today (3/23), The Well has willingly closed its doors indefinitely in compliance with the Governor’s order for non-essential businesses to cease operations. We fully understand that call, and agree that this course of action is needed to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.⠀

At the suggestion of some supportive regulars, we have set up a Gofundme page to benefit everyone on our team who lost their livelihood during this very scary time. ⠀

If you’ve ever come here for beer, a tap takeover, a beer festival, an outdoor party, an indoor party, a birthday party, a Tinder hookup, a fundraiser, to see a band perform, to watch the debates, or just randomly wandered in to use our bathroom, please consider that all those great memories and moments could not have happened if it wasn’t for all the hard work and dedication from our entire staff:⠀

Bartenders⠀
Bar Backs⠀
Box Office & Door People⠀
Security⠀
Cleaners⠀
Sound & Production Staff⠀
Managers ⠀
Office Staff⠀

It’s never easy to ask for help, but these are extraordinarily unique and difficult times. Whatever you can spare will be appreciated beyond words. We also understand that this is a hard time for everyone, so if you cannot donate, please consider reposting or sharing the link to your network.⠀

Thank you, stay safe, stay at home. We look forward to a time we can get back to doing what we know–PARTYING WITH YOU. ⠀

Please bring your own growler or container. We’ve filled just about everything this past week, including coffee jars, seltzer bottles, and one gas can.

It’s unbelievable that was ONLY 3 👏 WEEKS 👏 AGO 👏. Crazy how much has changed. Hope all of our friends are doing well throughout all of this.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Reminder that today is one of your last chances to come buy beer to-go from us. We are open today (2-8) and tomorrow (2-6) for growler fills and takeout bottles/cans at very low prices. Bring in whatever sealable containers you have, and we’ll fill them up with fresh draft beer for 50% off. Please take us up on this! It’s all going to waste, otherwise. After Sunday night, we will be closed indefinitely.

Beer list link in bio. Updated hourly.

03/20/2020

In compliance with Governor Cuomo’s order for all non-essential businesses to cease operations, Sunday will be your last chance to pick up beer from The Well for the foreseeable future. We had hoped to try and limp along until we could reopen for full service, but that is no longer a possibility.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It does no one any good for all this incredible beer to go to waste, so we’re continuing to offer everything on draft for takeout in WHATEVER SEALABLE CONTAINER you’ve got for 1/2 price. We are all out of growlers of our own, so bring whatever you got.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There are also plenty of great bottles and cans priced to-go! See our bio for link to list, but note that not all pricing is accurate as some prices have dropped. The growler list/pricing is accurate and updated daily.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As a reminder, please put your personal health and the welfare of the people you interact with first. It’s more important than beer.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You have 3 days to pick us clean. After that, we’ll see you when we see you.

Our amazing friends at Hudson Valley Brewery have lifted the “no growlers” policy on their beer, so Peach Silhouette is now available in 32oz to-go! We are out of growlers at the moment, so you’ll have to bring an empty. 🤷🏽‍♀️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We’ve also updated our growler pricing on ! There are currently tons of amazing and rare options available to-go at a discounted price, so if you’re thirsty, please support a local business. If we’re going to survive this, we’ll need the help of our community! Link to menu in bio.
