Hi Folks,
Unfortunately with a heavy heavy heart and profound sadness, I’m posting to share the heartbreaking news that our co-worker, and moreover , our dear friend Gio , sadly passed away in the early hours of Thursday 2nd July. Gio’s sudden and untimely passing occurred by nature of a freak- accident whilst making his way home. Some of you reading will already be aware of this tragic event, whilst most will be in deep shock, as we all were here at The Hairy Lemon upon finding out this news. We purposely delayed notification on this platform as Gio’s family come to terms with such a devastating loss while at the same time co-ordinate the formalities of his funeral arrangements which we will post here once released.

Gio came to work at the bar in September 2020 where he started working as our head cook. It soon became apparent that his experience in the hospitality industry knew no bounds and his subtle, unassuming yet jovial nature were sorely wasted at the back of the house and with time , he became one of our lead bartenders. In a world where so many of us carry the metaphorical burden and baggage of life on our shoulders, Gio, inversely , had the gift of always leaving this baggage behind whenever he stepped past the entrance door of The Hairy Lemon. His uniform was his smile, which we wore perpetually and his work ethic was upbeat and diligent. Every customer was treated equally with grace, please , thank you and you’re welcome and have a great night.

Gio’s family have expressed their consent that we share details of his GoFundMe page his family set up, for those who are able to help with the sudden and unplanned financial burden associated with the situation.

It is also our intention to host a benefit night in Gio’s memory and some point in the very near future. Again, we will keep all of you folks notified on this platform.

Finally, for you Gio…. You’ve been suddenly taken from Us, and the pool tables of this city, to go shoot with the stars in the sky. We’re all lost for words right now other than we love you and will miss you beyond words.

Rest easy Buddy.
