Sunday Session!

This Sunday at Plowshares: Rico Jones Quartet

Join us this Sunday at 2 PM as we welcome Tenor Saxophonist Rico Jones to the Plowshares stage! Rico will be joined by some familiar faces from prior Sunday Sessions. Jam Session to follow first set!

Rico Jones - Saxophone
Rico Jones is a visionary saxophonist, composer, and bandleader whose debut album BloodLines (Giant Step Arts, 2025) has firmly established him as a rising force in modern jazz. Awarded ★★★★ by DownBeat Magazine and named to their prestigious Best Albums of 2025 list, BloodLines places Jones in the company of icons and contemporaries alike, including Andrew Hill, Horace Silver, Pharoah Sanders, Benny Golson, Chick Corea and B.B. King, as well as Christian McBride, Ambrose Akinmusire, Brad Mehldau, Brian Blade and Johnathan Blake. Critic Howard Mandel wrote, “Jones and company seek meaning if not transcendence in improvising music… Jones joins Immanuel Wilkins and Joel Ross as current leaders with roots in the Black church, famously a source for Coltrane and many others.”

William Hill III — Piano
Detroit-born pianist, composer, arranger, and bandleader William Hill III brings a deep command of bebop, hard bop, blues, gospel, R&B, and funk-inflected jazz. An award-winning musician with performances at venues including Dizzy’s Club, Smalls, Mezzrow, The Kennedy Center, and the Detroit Jazz Festival, Hill’s playing is rooted, expressive, and full of momentum.

Anthony Golden — Bass
Anthony Golden is a Double Bassist, Composer, and Arranger from Denver, CO currently living in NYC. His playing is raw, supportive, hardcore, and spans the whole range of human emotion. His musical taste is heavily influenced by Black American Music, creative improvised music, and American counterculture. In addition to performing at high profile historic venues such as Smalls Jazz Club, Cafe Bohemia, Minton's Playhouse, & the Newport Jazz Festival, Golden has logged extensive time performing on the NYC streets and subway platforms. This combination of influences and experiences have culminated in a sound designed to command one’s attention, then overpower the listener with love.

Jerome Gillespie Jr. — Drums
Jerome Gillespie Jr. is a jazz drummer, composer, and bandleader based in New York City who grew up in Houston, Texas. A graduate of Manhattan School of Music, University of Iowa, and The Juilliard School, Gillespie blends church traditions, hard bop fire, and modern storytelling in his deeply rooted yet forward-moving sound. He has performed with jazz luminaries including Reggie Workman, Bobby Watson, Vincent Herring, and Mark Gross, and holds experience in Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers tribute ensembles.

As always, come for the music, stay for the community. Musicians: Jam Session opens after 1st set🎶

Sunday Session!

This Sunday at Plowshares: Benny Benack III Quartet
Peperoncino Jazz Festival

Join us this Sunday at 2 PM as we welcome our friend, neighbor, trumpeter, crooner extraordinaire Benny Benack III (https://www.bennybenackjazz.com) and his quartet to Plowshares stage which this year has partnered with the Peperoncino Jazz Festival! (https://www.peperoncinojazzfestival.com)

THE PEPERONCINO JAZZ FESTIVAL is an itinerant musical fair that for 25 years has been uniting countless local municipalities in the Italian region of Calabria, strengthening the ties between local identity, culture and sustainable tourism. Continuing a well-established tradition, this year the festival is back to New York for its “New York Sessions” bringing together the best of the New York and the Italian jazz scenes.

Benny Benack III
Emmy-nominated Trumpeter and Vocalist Benny Benack III (BBIII) has quickly become a leading voice in Jazz for his generation, headlining clubs and festivals around the world on the heels of his latest critically acclaimed live album “This Is The Life,” which has been garnering thousands of streams and topping the JazzWeek Radio Charts. He is the rare talent who is formidable as a fiery trumpeter -- ranging from Freddie Hubbard to Louis Armstrong and everyone in between -- while as a singer he delivers sly, mature, naturally expressive post-Sinatra vocal stylings.

Let's welcome Benny back home from extensive touring as part of the Jazz at Lincoln Center: Great American Crooners Tour and his just finished European tour!

Elio Coppala - Drums
Born in 1985, originally from Naples, Elio Coppola is one of the best jazz drummers on the jazz scene. He began his studies with drummer Stefano Tatafiore and continued with the great master Kenny Washington. Has played with some of the best musicians in the world including Benny Golson, Joey De Francesco, Peter Bernstein, Dado Moroni, Ronnie Cuber and others. It is important to remember the friendship and mutual esteem that binds him to the great master Tullio De Piscopo who recently invited him to the Mercadante theater in Naples to open one of his concerts. He has recently released his first album ititled "Infinity" with the brilliant Emmet Cohen and bassist Giuseppe Venezia. They, together, have been performing around Italy in about 60 concerts and also in the in New York, in the famous Guggenheim Museum, Small Jazz Club, Mezzrow Jazz Club, Dizzy's Club Coca Cola and Birdland Jazz Club and major jazz venues in the States. Elio is currently workin’ with the Yamaha Music School and the Pomigliano D'Arco Jam Music School (NA). He has also held seminars on the history and evolution of drums in jazz music. Recently received the "Excellencies of the City" award from the municipal administration of Somma Vesuviana (in the province of Naples) for having brought the name of his city around the world.

Andrea Domenici - Piano

Born and raised in Lecco (Italy), Andrea Domenici is a jazz pianist and composer who has been living in New York since 2012. At the beginning of his career he won the first edition of the “Premio Gianni Basso” as best soloist and the first prize of the La Spezia Jazz Competition as the best piano player. A 2016 graduate from The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, Domenici studied with great piano players such as Benny Green, Barry Harris, Kenny Barron, Dado Moroni, Rossano Sportiello and Mario Rusca.

Since Domenici has moved to New York, he collaborated and shared the stage with: Harry Allen, Wynton Marsalis, Gary Bartz, Louis Hayes, Kenny Washington, James Morrison, Etienne Charles, Eddie Henderson, Billy Drummond, Peter Washington, Roy Hargrove, Carol Fredette, Billy Harper, Dave Glasser, Charles Tolliver, Jimmy Owens, Wayne Escoffery, Dave Kikoski, Dave Douglas, James Carter and many more. Carlos Barreto - Bass
