5 years ago -May 3rd 2021- we opened our doors in Carroll Gardens.
Many are the images, the thoughts, the vibes that brought us to this point and that positioned SOCIALE to play a role in this tough industry for the years to come.
The first two pictures represent the hardest moments of the journey that brought us to open. In the middle of the pandemic; the project stalling; zero money; no hope; Meg woke up, took a windex and told me: “I’m gonna go clean the glasses because I don’t want the neighbors to look at our dirty glasses”. The second is after receiving and installing the appliances (I cried). Then right after the lockdown some hope was coming back to our souls; the project resumed, the gas was hooked up after waiting for more than a year. Following a bunch of pictures of our people; the ones than never stopped believing in us; the ones that gave us the strength to continue even if from so far away; my best friends in Brooklyn (we had to triple beer kegs orders during their visit); Pablo (who is the engine behind our success); our family and friends; Paula from Il Gattopardo who taught us everything she could. Then some other construction pics: the wonderful wood we used throughout the whole space: bar counter; tables… the shiny kitchen project finalized … the store front before our landlord gut renovated it. Megh parents with us in Bologna before opening; strategizing, helping us figuring out the mess we were trying to live through. And finally the storefront after our renovation; we think it’s so gorgeous and timeless. Last pictures are not super business related but if we are who we are; and can give what we give everyday to our guests is also (and mostly) because of these folks: my family having lunch in our apartment in Brooklyn; my sister in our happy place (the house we rent every year in Sardegna … and where this summer I’ll marry my best friend)… me, Fabio and my second mom Linda having fun in Italy a month ago … and finally our future: Hector and Angie who are projecting us to where we want to be in the food department. And on top of this all: our investors; workers; landlord; our regulars: it takes a village. But we have the village !

Today we went and pay our homage to one of the most stunning restaurant in New York City . group ran this operation for almost two decades bringing authentic southern Italian cuisine to this magical location of Central Park West.
Our mentor and best friend Paula donated to Sociale these beautiful patio chairs that will be showcased in Brooklyn this coming spring in our dehor.
Checking coats at the Leopard was the first New York restaurant gig (she was probably making more than being a small business owner lol).
I was working as a maître d’ at the Leopard on Sunday brunch moving to for dinner and taking naps on the benches of Central Park (in my cheap suits).
It’s been a day of memories, almost tears, lots of hugs and beautiful plans for the future.
Thank you Paula, thank you Gianfranco, thank you Chef Vito, thank you thank you whole staff for considering us part of your Bella famiglia !!

Parmigiana di Melanzane or Eggplant Parmigiana is a dish that is so genius in its simplicity that never gets old. It is also probably our best selling vegetarian dish, so… very good for whoever doesn’t abide by the dry January rules but can accept meatless January.

So much time, work, passion and dedication goes into every single dish we present you.
This is our Pappardelle al Coniglio, and since we’re in between Christmas and New Year’s Eve I’m having it for breakfast !

Some items are destined to create a cult following, and this is one of them.
Our fresh ginger tea is so special in its simplicity and it’s by far the most requested N/A drink on our menu. (Pablo is literally constantly in production) !
Come try it and, if you’re among the true fans, let us know why you love it so much !! 🍋🫚

So much work goes into a simple welcome bread service dipping. Here’s how we make ours.
The responsibility is split: the kitchen takes care of the cooked portion of the recipe and the runner/expo takes care of the butter side of it.
Kitchen bakes the bread, runner/expos cut it in equal sized strips.
This is how we welcome every single guest for lunch and dinner.

Sealing our big windows signs the official end of summer for us. It is one of those yearly tasks that make us aware that another year has passed giving us that sweet taste of a business gaining longevity and slowly aging with so much grace. While winterizing the window we were talking about how grateful we are, everyday, for having such an army of wonderful regulars populating our dining room at every single hour of a day, and every single day of the week… an army that we see expanding every year. At this point we’re too old (experienced/seasoned) for taking it for granted: this means maniacally listening to all of you (“it’s a little drafty” third complaint means it’s time to seal the windows immediately lol) and means keeping this -pretty big- structure loved and properly maintained.
Our daily gratitude extend to our other army… the back and front of the house, the professionals backing us up, our landlord that really doesn’t miss any opportunity to support us, our investors… Restaurant business is tough, all these allies we have make it way more bearable and surely a pleasure to perform. Thank God we have all of you ♥️.

When -about 10 years ago- we decided to add a burger to our mains section, we did it being aware it could’ve been a total waste of time. We asked our regulars what they thought and so many of them told us “it’s going to be weird for an Italian concept like yours, probably it won’t sell”. We agreed, nonetheless we started to test different breads for the bun, starting from the classic brioche, being intrigued for a hot second with a pretzel bun and ending up with this blend AP/wholewheat ciabatta styled bun. The meat was an easy call because our meatballs were already gaining traction and we just “meatloafed” the same blend and recipe. Cheese also took a some effort to investigate and at the end we opted for a (drained) imported Neapolitan buffalo mozzarella: great call never regretted. The onions are caramelized and the option of adding fried bacon was always granted. After so many years we can say this is one of the best selling items overlapping lunch/brunch and dinner menus. This wonderful shot was taken by our Puerto Rican sisters of
