Behind the Flavor: Honoring the Roots of De Islands
At De Islands Caribbean Restaurant, every dish we serve is built on authentic island tradition, heritage, and passion. But behind every successful recipe and every plate that leaves our kitchen, there is a story of community, mentorship, and deep-rooted history.
A Return to Where It All Began
During a recent visit to Jamaica, we toured the Kingston Garmex Industrial Zone—formerly known as the Kingston Free Zone. For us, walking through this area was a deeply personal journey, as it marks the exact location where I worked from 1984 to 1988. Returning to these grounds served as a powerful reminder of how far our journey has taken us.
The Vision Behind De Islands
While in the Garmex Industrial Zone, we visited Mohan, Kash’s cousin and the visionary who first introduced Kash to the food industry.
The initial concept for De Islands Caribbean Restaurant was shaped through Mohan’s deep industry knowledge and expertise, combined with Kash’s unwavering passion, determination, and hard work. It always feels good to give credit where credit is due, and it is our distinct honor to highlight the key people who helped lay the foundation for our success.

A key part of our authentic taste comes from using original, high-quality island ingredients. To create our signature jerk recipes, we proudly use Spur Tree seasonings, bringing genuine Jamaican spices directly to your table.
