We made a new flavor to celebrate.
Meet Opal Lee, named after the Grandmother of Juneteenth. It's a burnt sugar cake ice cream β burnt sugar syrup, vanilla cake, and a rich frosting made with butter, evaporated milk, brown sugar, and molasses. Inspired by lost Black baking traditions and the recipes that almost didn't make it to us.
Opal Lee, the person, spent decades fighting to make Juneteenth a federal holiday β walking from Fort Worth to Washington D.C. at age 89, meeting presidents, and standing beside President Biden in 2021 as he signed the bill into law.
We named this flavor after her because her legacy deserves to be enjoyed and remembered.

A tricycle. A community garden. A wedding. π€
During COVID, the bride walked to our Lenox Avenue store for a cup of blueberry cheesecake ice cream during one of the hardest seasons many of us have ever lived through. This weekend, she and her partner included us in their celebration of love.
We scooped through cocktail hour, which they called an ice cream social, and watched a community of people celebrate two people who chose each other β and chose us to be part of it.
This is one of the reasons we do what we do.
Planning a wedding?
Weβd love to be part of your day. π¦

Everything about this picture of at our store on Lenox Ave makes us happy β from the fact that one of our neighbors took it (with permission) and sent it to us, to the fact that we were on Sheryl Lee Ralphβs radar. It speaks to the dreams we held when we opened almost nine years ago: to be a place for neighbors and a destination for visitors coming to Harlem. Our heart is full.
