Poetry, talk, music, dance, food & drink.
Featured speaker Norman Siegel, former executive director of the New York Civil Liberties Union and initiator of the new Street Homelessness Advocacy Project (SHAP) will speak and lead the discussion. He will be introduced by James Abro, author of the memoir "A Homey's Life."
Acclaimed poets Chris Brandt, Arlene Cassarino, Pete Dollack, Robert Galinsky, Raymond Nat Turner, as well as 20-year-old Timi Barabas, an Hungarian-born New Zealander who founded "Rise For Lives" while in high school, a non-profit sponsored by groups ranging from Amnesty International to World Beyond War, will perform.
Timi says "Doing what is right instead of what is easy is never our choice, it's always our responsibility."
Musicians include the Rising Together Band featuring Trudy Silver,Malick Koly, Orin Buck and Raymond Nat Turner, Raging Grannies NYC and Don Deering on acoustic guitar, among others.
Open Mic at 3 pm, 5-minute slots - first come, first presented - registration opens at noon.
"At a time when homelessness is a decades-old emergency, our electeds and public servants can't be our only first responders. All New Yorkers must be first responders when it comes to our fellow New Yorkers living in our streets." says Rising Together organizer zool.
