progress on the housatonic riverfront

Last week’s public workshop in New Milford marked a meaningful milestone for the Housatonic Riverfront Plan, years in the making and shaped through close collaboration with the Town, the Riverfront Revitalization Committee, and the community.

Building on WXY’s 2019 plan, the latest design phase advances a vision for public access, new amenities, and resilient landscapes that respond to the environmental challenges along the river’s edge. We’re excited to continue supporting the Town of New Milford as this innovative vision moves from planning into implementation!

This week, our team was on the ground in Columbus, OH, listening, learning, and exploring what the Linden Green Line could become. The turnout was strong, and the conversations were thoughtful, direct, and grounded in lived experience.

We’re focused on hearing from people along the full seven-mile corridor so the plan can remain flexible, responsive, and rooted in the realities of each neighborhood over time.

Neighborhood planning captures local voices; corridor planning helps those voices travel farther—connecting places and allowing cities to think beyond isolated areas. The Linden Green Line is an opportunity to do exactly that, shaped by input from end to end.

Calling all artists!

WXY is inviting Brooklyn-based artists and community organizations to submit qualifications for a new public mural at the Brooklyn Wholesale Meat Market in Sunset Park.

This opportunity is part of a collaboration with NYCEDC and Debra Simon Art Consulting for NYCEDC–owned sites. The selected artist or organization will create a mural that celebrates the area’s history, community, and evolving public realm.

WXY is proud to share that the Garden House at The Packer Collegiate Institute has been named a Best in Class winner in the 2025 Brick in Architecture Awards by the

Designed to feel continuous with its context, the façade features three custom brick blends—reddish, orange, and burgundy—carefully calibrated to the masonry palette of the Brooklyn Heights Historic District and Packer’s 1869 brownstone.

Sustainability was central to the material strategy: the brick is made from 100% recycled clay content, paired with a CLT structure and green roof to reduce embodied carbon while creating inspiring spaces for early learners.

A new feature highlights how that intention sparked a coordinated effort to reshape 40+ blocks of Downtown Brooklyn into a walkable district centered on the people who use it every day.

WXY partnered with , and the , starting with small pandemic-era pilots outside new buildings. By widening sidewalks, adding greenery, and transforming curbside parking into places to sit, these early moves proved how modest interventions can open streets to people, bring nature back into the urban realm, and create a cohesive sense of place.

Those pilots became the foundation for the Public Realm Action Plan, and the results are now visible block after block. Shared streets, new trees, reimagined planters, and abundant seating are reshaping daily life in Downtown Brooklyn.

This work shows how design can help cities reclaim streets from cars and intentionally return them to people.

The final weekend of ’s 2025 season is here, the first since its transformative Capital Project.

WXY is proud to have contributed to this next chapter for an institution that continues to set standards for art, landscape, and design in dialogue. We look forward to seeing the grounds come alive with visitors again when Storm King reopens on April 1, 2026.

Storm King will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and open with regular hours Friday, November 28–Sunday, November 30 (10AM–4PM) before closing to the public for the winter season.

19th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia closed yesterday—and what a moment for WXY. Our work was featured in both the U.S. Pavilion and the Arsenale, amplifying our belief in the power of “in-between” spaces.

From Coastal Porchscapes, reimagining porches as civic thresholds along flood-prone coastlines, to Urban Dining Porchscapes, our Open Restaurants collaboration with NYC DOT, we explored how even the most everyday edges can become sites of generosity.

We’re honored to have contributed. As the Biennale wraps up, we’re reflecting on how small, flexible interventions can reshape community, infrastructure, and ecology, not just for Venice, but for cities everywhere.

Big news from the Bronx!

We’re excited to announce the launch of the affordable housing lottery for the first phase of our Stevenson Square development in the Soundview neighborhood of the Bronx.

Phase one includes 116 affordable units, plus one superintendent unit for a total of 117 units overall, with a pathway to homeownership via 58 co-ops in the next two buildings.

Built to support both longtime residents and new community connections, the design prioritizes walkability, transit support (car-share, bike storage, improved bus links), and consolidates parking in a single facility. By introducing a human-scale, mid-rise development with ground-floor townhomes, new streets, and public amenities, the project strengthens community ties and expands access to quality housing for the Bronx.

To reach Centre Street in New York, you have several options for public transport and driving/parking:

Public Transport:
1. Subway: Take the 4, 5, or 6 train to the Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall station. From there, walk east on Chambers Street and turn left onto Centre Street. The destination will be on your right.

2. Bus: Depending on your starting location, you can take various bus routes that pass through Centre Street, such as M9, M22, or M103. Check the local bus schedule for the most convenient option.

Driving/Parking:
Please note that parking in New York City can be challenging and expensive. It is recommended to use public transport whenever possible.

1. From the north: Take FDR Drive South and exit at Exit 3 toward South Street/Manhattan Bridge/Brooklyn Bridge. Merge onto South Street and continue straight onto Frankfort Street. Turn right onto Centre Street.

2. From the south: Take FDR Drive North and exit at Exit 2 toward Franklin D Roosevelt East River Drive/Manhattan Civic Center/Battery Park Underpass/Franklin D Roosevelt East River Drive N/Brooklyn Bridge. Merge onto Pearl Street and continue straight onto St James Place. Turn left onto Oliver Street and then left again onto Centre Street.

3. Parking: There are several parking garages available in the vicinity of Centre Street where you can park your vehicle for a fee. It is advisable to check online for nearby parking options and rates before your visit.

Remember to always check for any road closures or construction updates that may affect your route before traveling to Centre Street in New York City.
