Today is National Happy Hour Day, an annual celebration of the fact that it's 5:00 somewhere! Happy Hour is a time to unwind after a day's work, to connect with friends before dinner, and to take advantage of special food and beverage discounts and promotions.
The originated during WWI, when the U.S. Navy would host Happy Hour Social Events for the troops as a way to socialize. But instead of drinking, there was entertainment, such as live music, dancing and boxing matches. The term didn’t apply to cocktails until the 1920’s…during Prohibition.
Although no one knows where National Happy Hour Day came from, we see no reason to question an annual celebration of a daily celebration!
