A big shoutout to mia escalante ♡ and Chris Almaguer who chose to spend their very first legal drink at Spring Lounge, thanks to a recommendation from one of their dads, whose friend used to work here.

We wish every 21-year-old came into the world of legal drinking with the same good manners, good sense and general thoughtfulness as these two. Congratulations on officially being able to order that first drink — and we are so happy that you chose to spend the occasion with us! 🦈

Across much of America, bars close at 1 or 2 AM. In New York State, the State Liquor Authority sets the maximum hours for alcohol sales, but counties can adopt earlier closing times if they choose. Manhattan has long remained one of the places where licensed bars can legally serve until 4 AM, making it part of the city’s identity as much as the subway or the skyline.

New York’s 4 AM closing time is practically sacred.

It isn’t just about drinking later. It changes how people experience the city. Dinner starts later. Shows end later. Conversations last longer. The night isn’t rushed.

It’s one of those little things that quietly makes New York...New York.

Welcome to the club, members 340, 341 & 342–Maria Doug and Baylor Baylor ! 🍻🦈 Thank you three for sharing your photos with us. Nothing better than seeing the club through the eyes of the people who make it what it is. Welcome aboard!

For the uninitiated: The Early Morning Drinkers Society is a Spring Lounge tradition dating back to August 7, 2014. Stop by between 8AM–2PM Monday through Friday, grab a punch card, and after 15 visits you officially become a member of the club, complete with an EMDS T-shirt and a celebration. There are now over 300 members of this increasingly questionable but highly regarded society.

Ever wonder why New York’s last call is 4 AM?

Long before New York became a nightlife capital, it was an industrial city running around the clock. Dockworkers unloaded ships overnight. Bakers started before dawn. Newspaper presses ran through the night. Actors left the theater after midnight. Musicians packed up long after everyone else had gone home.

When your shift ended at 2 AM, you still needed somewhere to gather.

After Prohibition ended in 1933, New York created the State Liquor Authority, which established statewide rules for alcohol sales. New York City ultimately retained some of the latest legal serving hours in the country, allowing on-premises establishments to serve until 4 AM on most nights.

The city that never sleeps wasn’t built by people who stayed out late.

It was built by people who never stopped working.
