Truth is, if I'm not at Il Corallo, I'm most likely at one of these places...
1/6. Great NY Noodletown, 28 Bowery Street
The noodles, roasted meats and wontons here are everything. This bowl alone can motivate me to walk across the Manhattan Bridge.
Noodles come from Hong Kong.
Same cooks in the kitchen for decades.
The most delicious broth and the wontons bursting with perfectly seasoned shrimp.
2/6. Yi Ji Shi Mo, 88 Elizabeth Street
I'm ruined for all other rice rolls.
Pro-tip, call ahead and place your order. I do it so often that when I walk in they just know me as the last 4 digits of my phone number.
I love the signature roll with lots of chili oil.
And I never leave without an order of tea eggs. This crew is also so cool. Watching them make the rice rolls is mesmerizing.
3/6. G & J Florist, 91 Elizabeth Street
So this place is such a gem. The family that runs it is kind and so knowledgable about their products.
I discovered them on Instagram during Covid. These folks make weekly runs to Lancaster PA to bring back fresh organic produce & honey from Amish farmers. We used their heirloom tomatoes at the restaurant all summer long. Also great honey and flowers so fresh they last for weeks.
They are right across the street from Yi Ji Shi Mo, so if you forget to call and have to wait for your rice roll, pop over.
4/6. Big Wong, 67 Mott Street
This is my favorite place for congee.
Full Stop. If you know a better place, tell me but I am skeptical.
5/6 Fong On, 81 Division Street
Saw this place on PBS and am a new devotee of the savory tofu pudding topped with all sorts of glorious things.
Family owned, delicious.
6/6 Tofu Tofu, 96 Bowery Street
If I could only eat one cuisine the rest of my life, it would be Korean.
Anything stoneware, bubbling with kimchi & meat is my happy place. The banchan here is tasty and I always get a steamed egg (ask for it, it's extra and worth it), even if I can't finish everything. Leftover heaven.
I've lived and worked in NYC for over 30 years and this is still my favorite neighborhood to eat, shop, people-watch and wander.
Drop your favorite spots in the comments.
See you Wednesday!

The best restaurants in this city aren’t here for the hype.
They’re here for their neighbors.
For first dates that turn into anniversaries.
For Friday lunches that become a ritual.
For the server who knows your usual.
We’ve been here since 1992.
Through blackouts. Through recessions. Through heat waves and snowstorms.
Through seasons where the dining room was full and seasons where it was quiet.
What never changed was why.
To cook honestly.
To welcome you warmly.
To make sure that when you sit down, you feel taken care of.
In a city that moves fast, that matters.
If you’ve celebrated here — thank you!
If you’ve brought friends here — thank you!
If you’ve left a kind review, told someone about us, tagged us in a photo, or simply come back again — thank you!
You are the reason independent restaurants like ours endure.
And if you haven’t visited in a while, consider this your sign.✨
Your table is here.
The pasta is simmering.
The wine is waiting .
We’re not chasing trends.
We’re building something lasting.
Save this for the next time you’re deciding where to go.
Share it with someone you’ve been meaning to have dinner with.
And when you walk through the door, know this —
You’re not just dining out.
You’re part of the story.

Great food carries memory. First dates. Graduation dinners. Tuesday nights that turned into something more.
And at Il Corallo Trattoria , it’s always right here, from your first sip to your last perfectly sweet bite.
Our picture-perfect tiramisu — cocoa dusted, layered just right, deceptively simple, absolutely delicious.
When we first opened our doors in 1992, tiramisu wasn’t everywhere. It wasn’t a trend. It wasn’t reinvented, deconstructed, or reimagined. It was simply what it was meant to be — espresso-soaked ladyfingers layered with mascarpone, finished with a generous dusting of cocoa.
We put it on the menu on day one.
And we never changed it.
Over the years, the dining room has evolved. Plates have changed. The city has changed. Neighbors have come and gone and come back again. But this recipe? It stays exactly the same.
Because it works.
Because simple, done properly, doesn’t need editing.
Nothing fancy. Just right.
