Café Argentino – A Devastating Loss to a Community
On Tuesday, August 23rd, at approximately 3:30 am, our wonderful Café owners, Valerie and Cristian received the news that their beloved café was severely damaged by a three-alarm fire that spread throughout the entire building. The fire damage was extensive and they lost everything.
Café Argentino has been a staple in the community for several years and is not only the place where people come to eat but it is the place where you feel like family once you enter the doors. Valerie and Cristian took a chance when they took over ownership and poured all their funds and endless hours of love and hard work to make it an incredibly loving and authentic local restaurant where you feel the essence of Argentina and the love of being a part of the Williamsburg community. It has become a family business where you will find their son Justin working as well as their parents Humberto and Norma. The staff also have been committed to the café and are truly like a family. Everyone, including all the staff and family are hurting right now and will feel the impact from this terrible fire.
Our hope is that Valerie and Cristian will rebuild and bring back the beloved Café to the corner of Grand and Union but they will need our support as the expenses will be immense. In addition to paying for the rebuilding, they will be required to continue paying rent and all other expenses that go along with the space. In addition, I am certain they will want to help their staff who lost their source of income as well. Without the income coming in from the restaurant, it will be almost impossible for them to keep up with everything that is ahead of them.
If Café Argentino has been a special space for you, please consider contributing to two of the most wonderful, kind and generous people you will ever meet. They have committed themselves to creating a community hub and now it is time for us to give back to them.
Your generosity will be truly appreciated by them. Thank https://gofund.me/1853a021
