As many of you know, the fields at Red Hook Park were found to be contaminated with lead and have been undergoing decontamination for more than eight years. Unfortunately, projects of this scale often take much longer than expected.
During this time, multiple fields remained closed. Local soccer and baseball leagues were displaced, and many of our fellow vendors were forced to sell their food trucks due to reduced attendance by players, families, and friends, ultimately closing their seasonal businesses.
Today, as the last remaining food truck—El Olomega Pupusas—we are no longer able to carry the cost of the New York City Parks Department seasonal permit on our own, which is approximately $14,000 per summer.
We are deeply grateful for all the years of support, community, and memories you have shared with us.
Following the expiration of the Red Hook food vendors contract this summer 2026, we are currently working to obtain an individual permit without a NYC Parks Department contract. However, the cost for a single vendor operating for approximately 20 weekend days is significantly higher, and the process takes time. As a result, we are unable to legally return to our usual location this summer.
Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to suspend our 2026 season.
We remain hopeful and are working toward returning for the 2027 season, pending permit approval.
Thank you again for standing with us throughout the years. Your support means everything to us, and together we created a family-like community we will always cherish.

Dear community,
After more than 8 years of closures due to contamination at Red Hook Park, and with El Olomega Pupusas now the last remaining vendor, we are no longer able to cover the high permit costs on our own.
With heavy hearts, we have decided to suspend our 2026 season.
Thank you for all the years of support, friendship, and unforgettable moments. ❤️
We remain hopeful and are working toward returning in 2027.
This is not goodbye, but see you soon.
