Head Roaster, Jordan, breaks down why Mighty Oak is especially excited to bring Fazenda Passeio to NYC.
Grown 1,200 meters above sea level in Brazil, this natural-process coffee delivers everything we love in a beautifully balanced cup: rich sweetness, smooth body, nutty and chocolatey notes, with a touch of dried fruit.
Behind the coffee is Adolfo, a fourth-generation producer carrying his family’s tradition forward while continuing to evolve the farm through thoughtful, sustainable practices; from solar power and preserved forest areas to repurposing coffee parchment and tree prunings.

A big thank you to the Astoria Journal for sharing the story behind Escuela y Café and the people who make this coffee so meaningful!
Experience Escuela y Café while this limited release is still available ☕️ Shop in-store or on our website.
Escuela y Café is an educational coffee program in Colombia’s Cauca region that connects coffee farming with the next generation. Students and their families receive coffee seedlings to plant and care for, learning firsthand about cultivation while helping carry forward their communities’ coffee-growing traditions.
While this particular lot is limited, our relationship with Escuela y Café is just beginning. Mighty Oak will continue partnering with the program to bring future harvests to Astoria and share more of the coffees, communities, and stories behind them.
We’re proud to bring this special coffee, and the story behind it, to Astoria!

Cascara shows a completely different side of the coffee plant, and this spritz is our favorite way to serve it.
What makes The Cascara Spritz especially interesting is the cascara itself…
Everyone loves to talk about the coffee bean, but that bean actually starts inside a fruit called the coffee cherry. Cascara is the dried skin and pulp of that fruit — naturally sweet, fruity and slightly tart, with a flavor all its own.
Our Cascara Spritz pairs cascara with fresh lemon and mint for a bright and refreshing caffeinated beverage.
Shoutout to Tes for walking us through the drink and reminding us that there’s a lot more to coffee than what ends up in your morning cup!

Escuela y Café is more than a coffee from Colombia… it’s a coffee creating opportunity for the next generation.
In the mountains of Totoró, Cauca, Colombia, students at La Escuela Buena Vista are learning coffee from the ground up through Escuela y Café, a program started by Colombia’s National Federation of Coffee Growers (FNC) that brings coffee education directly into rural schools.
For years, the program has introduced students across grade levels to coffee growing, processing and roasting, giving young people practical knowledge of an industry deeply connected to their communities.
The mission extends well beyond making better coffee. In parts of Cauca, coca cultivation and the violence associated with the illicit drug trade have created significant challenges for rural communities. Escuela y Café aims to provide young people with knowledge and economic opportunities within the legal coffee industry, creating another potential path toward a sustainable livelihood.
As students move through the program, their education extends beyond the classroom and into their own homes and communities. Younger students and their families can receive coffee seedlings to cultivate together, putting lessons about coffee growing and sustainability into practice with the support of parents and other family members. By the time those students reach high school, the trees can be producing meaningful harvests, giving them firsthand experience with the agricultural and economic side of coffee production. Income from those harvests can help support higher education or provide a foundation for young producers who may eventually choose to operate farms of their own.
Escuela y Café is currently available through Mighty Oak’s online shop, where customers can order freshly roasted bags for delivery, or purchase it directly from Mighty Oak at 28-01 24th Ave.
This particular harvest came from a small lot and will only be available for a limited time. Mighty Oak, however, sees this as just the beginning. The roastery is committed to growing its relationship with Escuela y Café, sourcing more coffees through the program in upcoming harvests.

What people say
Mighty Oak Roasters on 24th Avenue in New York is a coffee shop that stands out from the rest. As the only wood-fired coffee roaster in NYC, they bring a new take on this traditional process to Astoria. Their commitment to quality and passion for coffee is evident in every cup they serve. The team at Mighty Oak Roasters recently celebrated their four-year anniversary, and they are grateful for the support of their neighborhood. They even had a breakfast pop-up with their pals from another local business to mark the occasion! Mighty Oak Roasters sources their beans from remote locations like Josefina and Mario's farm on a hillside in Nicaragua's Jinotega region, Finca El Divino Niño. They also offer unique blends like Halo Hartume, which has blueberry and peach notes with a delicate vanilla aroma. This blend comes from the mountainous Gedeb region and supports nearly 400 smallholder farms through resources and education about farming techniques. You can find these exceptional coffees online or at the cafe itself. If you're looking for a coffee experience that goes beyond your average cup of joe, Mighty Oak Roasters is definitely worth checking out!
