What people say
Irish restaurants are known for their warm hospitality, cozy atmosphere, and delicious food. And Molly's Shebeen on 3rd Avenue in New York is no exception. As soon as you step inside, you'll be greeted with a hearty "Failte" (welcome) by the owners Pete and John. Established in 1960, Molly's is the most traditional Irish bar in New York, complete with sawdust on the floor and a log-burning fireplace.
One of the standout dishes at Molly's is their Shepherd's Pie - it's renowned for being one of the best in town. But if you're not in the mood for that, don't worry - they also serve up delicious hamburgers and steaks at reasonable prices. It's no wonder that Molly's has been a long-time favorite with locals and a destination for newcomers.
The history of Molly's is fascinating too - it was first established as a bar in 1895 (name unknown) and even operated as a grocery store during Prohibition. The bar was constructed from Honduran mahogany which, together with the original wood-burning fireplace, is still in place today. In 1964, it was purchased by the Purfield family from Dublin and Galway and named Molly Malone’s after a popular Irish folk song. And in 1991, Peter O’Connell from Co Meath took over and renamed it Molly’s Shebeen.
Together with John Ronaghan from Co Monaghan, they manage Molly’s to serve traditional Irish and American pub fare to a loyal and much-appreciated customer base. So if you're looking for an authentic Irish experience in New York City, head over to Molly's Shebeen on 3rd Avenue - you won't be disappointed!
