Dragon Boat Festival is one of the most meaningful traditional holidays in Chinese culture, celebrated this year on June 19th 🐉🥢
The festival honors the ancient poet Qu Yuan, who devoted his life to his country and, according to legend, jumped into a river in sorrow after the fall of his homeland. People raced out on dragon boats to search for him and threw rice dumplings, known as Zongzi, into the water so fish would not disturb him. Over time, this became the origin of today’s Dragon Boat Festival traditions.
Zongzi are traditional sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves, enjoyed during this holiday as a symbol of remembrance, care, and gathering with loved ones.
