Every cuisine is shaped by movement.

Long before borders defined food, ingredients, techniques and traditions crossed the Mediterranean freely. Couscous is one of those stories.

Arriving in Sicily centuries ago and eventually becoming part of the island’s culinary language.

Our summer vegetable couscous is a celebration of that legacy: seasonal vegetables, olive oil and the belief that the best ingredients need the least intervention.

Enjoy!

Meet the newest member of the team.

She clocks in every weekend, never misses a BRUNCH shift, and insists on being paid in breadcrumbs.

Luckily, her output is excellent. 🍳

Grazie Carletto.

I still get emotional every time I meet a farmer.

I still get chills when I taste a tomato grown with care, with history, with truth behind it.

You taught all of us to look at food differently: not just as something to eat, but as culture, memory, identity, and responsibility.

What you gave to the world through Slow Food is extraordinary. You gave value back to the hands, the land, the traditions, and the people behind every ingredient.

Now it’s on us to carry that message forward.
To protect it. To honor it. To keep telling that story: through what we cook, what we serve, and what we choose every day.

With gratitude, admiration, and so much emotion: thank you. ❤️

🇺🇸Today, our words are broken by tears of genuine sorrow. We were fortunate enough to take our first steps in the food system under the immense guidance of Carlo Petrini. Every conversation with him felt like “drinking from the source.” He shaped and supported our work as small producers, and for him, food was never just about food — it was about local economies, people, future generations, biodiversity, communities, traditions, pollution, human relationships, the fight against waste, and the fight against wars.

We are losing an extraordinary human being. What remains for us is the moral duty to continue his battles and to turn his teachings into concrete actions every single day. It will not be easy without him, but we will do our very best.

P.S. This photo was taken in 2013 in the garden of our very first opening here in Brooklyn. He was a truly great person, because he supported us in Italy and never failed to do the same once we arrived in NYC.

We opened our Have&Meyer in 2015. Ten years (and a little more) later, we’ve witnessed first dates become engagements 💍, weddings , anniversaries, and even new babies.

So many meaningful moments celebrated inside our restaurant, and that truly makes our hearts full.

So… is a restaurant just a restaurant❓

Our answer is NO.

It’s a place where the best parts of life happen.

Thank you for making us part of your story.

It’s not everyday that you see a father and sons work together on producing some of the most amazing natural wine in Italy.

Last night we welcomed not only Giusto Occhipinti of COS Azienda Agricola, but also the next generation of the family, Giovanni and Paolo: a beautiful reminder that great natural wine is something passed down through stories, hands, and harvests.

Our guests loved hearing about Sicily, about Vittoria: a territory geographically and spiritually closer to Africa than to Northern Italy, and about the 47 harvests dedicated to producing wines of incredible purity, elegance, clarity, and low alcohol expression.

From Europe’s largest amphora cellar to the soul behind every bottle, it was a night full of warmth, conversation, and wines that truly moved people.

Grazie famiglia COS 🍷

May, the way we like it: with the people behind our natural wines. 🍷

Join us as we welcome two extraordinary natural winegrowers for intimate evenings of tasting, storytelling, and discovery.

📍FRIDAY - May 8 — Giusto Occhipinti |COS (Sicily)

📍FRIDAY - May 15 — Mauro & Beatrice Giardini |Villa Venti (Emilia-Romagna)

A night exploring TWO distinct TERRITORIES reflected in each of their wines:

•from the gentle hills of Emilia-Romagna with Villa Venti - shaped by clay soils and Adriatic breezes that give structure and elegance to their wines expressed through native Sangiovese grape;

•to the southern edge of Sicily with COS - where the proximity to Africa brings intense sun, dry winds, and a raw Mediterranean energy, expressed through native grapes like Frappato, Nero d’Avola, creating wines of minerality, depth, and vibrant character.

DON’T MISS IT! ALL BY THE GLASS 🍷

PIATTO DEL MESE ✨

Just in time for Easter, our special of the month is both seasonal and relevant: a simple pasta all’uovo Ravioli with Spinach and Ricotta, enhanced (as is our usual style) by a rich and creamy walnut sauce.

Perfect to celebrate Easter (with eggs as the man ingredient for the pasta, representing rebirth.) Perfect to celebrate the kick off of the Spring season (with fresh market spinach) ✨🌱🌷

Come and enjoy it all month long, with a great glass of natural wine, of course 🥂

Brunch has entered the chat. 🍳🌿
Three plates that say everything about how we cook: with obsession, with intention, and with the best ingredients we can find.

🥚 Truffle Sunny-Side Up Eggs: three golden yolks, black truffle shaved tableside, roasted paprika potatoes on the side. Simple. Luxurious. Unforgettable.

🥪 Sandwich Prosciutto & Stracciatella: sourdough grilled to a char, 18-month aged prosciutto, creamy stracciatella, grilled eggplant. The kind of sandwich you think about for days.

🍳 Spinach Omelette: sautéed spinach, Vermont Creamery goat cheese, fresh salad. The vegetarian order that steals the table’s attention every time.

This is Italian brunch the way it should be: no shortcuts, no compromises, just food that tastes like someone cared deeply about making it.

We’ll see you at the table. 🌹

(And if you want the whole room to yourself and your party: let’s talk! We are happy to organize your private brunch party!)

What if you could sit across from the person who grew your wine? This spring, you can... again and again.

We’re hosting a full series of Meet the Winegrower evenings, bringing natural winemakers from around the world straight to you. Every event is an intimate 7–9pm gathering where the glass comes with a story.

Here’s who’s coming:
🍷 Wednesday, April 1st, Joachim Unterhofer, Reyter, Bolzano, South Tyrol
🍷 Thursday, April 23rd, Deirdre Heekin, La Garagista, Vermont
🍷 Friday, May 8th, Giusto Occhipinti, COS Ragusa, Sicily

Three evenings.

Three corners of the world.

One thing in common: winemakers who believe the land tells the truth.

What people say

Have & Meyer is a hidden gem located on Havemeyer Street in Brooklyn, New York. This wine bar and Italian restaurant offers a unique experience for natural wine lovers and foodies alike. The menu is inspired by the "Slow Food" movement, which emphasizes using fresh, local ingredients to create delicious dishes.

One of the standout features of Have & Meyer is their impressive wine cellar, where they proudly store rare and historic bottles of wine. They recently posted about their excitement for guarding the very first bottle of Barolo by Poderi e Cantine Oddero, released in 1878. It's clear that they take great care in curating their selection of natural wines.

In addition to their exceptional wine selection, Have & Meyer also hosts live jazz music on Thursdays for a perfect night out with friends or a romantic date night. And speaking of romance, they even wished their followers a happy Valentine's Day with a message to spread love always.

Overall, Have & Meyer offers an authentic Italian experience without having to leave Brooklyn. From the delicious pasta dishes to the carefully selected natural wines, this spot is definitely worth checking out for anyone looking for a unique dining experience.
