Respect.
Slow Food founder Carlo Petrini has passed.
He founded the Slow Food movement in mid 1980's in Italy.
Back in 2014 we were thrilled to host him at Jimmy's No.43 along with many Slow Food leaders.
So much respect for him.
We know that our friend Patrick Martins worked with him in the 90's and went on to start several Carlo inspired organizations in the U S including: Slow Food USA , Heritage Foods USA , and Heritage Radio Network .
Read more about that event here:
(2014)
"Carlo is impressed by the change in America over the past 25 years, especially in the rise of microbreweries and farmstead cheeses.
*He hates waste on a large-scale, commercial-food level.
*He cares about the producers behind artisanal practices and products.
*He appreciates simple affordable food and restaurants as much as the top, expensive, gastronomic restaurants.
*He started out as restaurant reviewer for a communist Italian newspaper; when the first McDonald’s opened in Rome he started a “slow food” movement to fight the onslaught of fast food."- Jimmy's No. 43 blog.
We served Carlo: cider by Farnum Hill Cider and Eden Cider,
Lardo collab by East Village Meat Market Inc./ J. Baczynsky with fatback from Flying Pigs Farm,
And Farmstead cheeses.
