Respect.
Slow Food founder Carlo Petrini has passed.
He founded the Slow Food movement in mid 1980's in Italy.
Back in 2014 we were thrilled to host him at Jimmy's No.43 along with many Slow Food leaders.

So much respect for him.
We know that our friend Patrick Martins worked with him in the 90's and went on to start several Carlo inspired organizations in the U S including: Slow Food USA , Heritage Foods USA , and Heritage Radio Network .

"Carlo is impressed by the change in America over the past 25 years, especially in the rise of microbreweries and farmstead cheeses.
*He hates waste on a large-scale, commercial-food level.
*He cares about the producers behind artisanal practices and products.
*He appreciates simple affordable food and restaurants as much as the top, expensive, gastronomic restaurants.
*He started out as restaurant reviewer for a communist Italian newspaper; when the first McDonald’s opened in Rome he started a “slow food” movement to fight the onslaught of fast food."- Jimmy's No. 43 blog.

We served Carlo: cider by Farnum Hill Cider and Eden Cider,
Lardo collab by East Village Meat Market Inc./ J. Baczynsky with fatback from Flying Pigs Farm,
And Farmstead cheeses.

Yesterday at Jimmy’s No. 43 we welcomed Slow Food founder and foodie icon Carlo Petrini for an intimate (in Italian!) meet and greet with this fun and fascinating man who launched the international movement almost 30 years ago. Thanks New York Events for this preview of our April 29th Brisket King NYC ! The 14th year!

"New York City doesn’t exactly lack for food festivals—but every so often, one comes along that feels less like a polished tasting event and more like a full-on culinary throwdown. Brisket King NYC is exactly that.

"Returning as one of the city’s most anticipated food competitions, Brisket King NYC brings together top pitmasters, chefs, and barbecue obsessives from across the region for a smoke-filled, flavor-packed showdown. The premise is simple: the best brisket wins. But the ex*****on? Anything but.

"Expect a lineup that spans traditional Texas-style smoked brisket to more creative interpretations that reflect New York’s diverse culinary scene. Some competitors stay true to low-and-slow methods, letting the meat and smoke do the talking. Others push boundaries with global influences, inventive rubs, and unexpected sides that elevate brisket beyond its roots. The result is a tasting experience that feels as much like a food tour as it does a competition.

"For guests, the format is refreshingly straightforward: eat, explore, repeat. Your ticket gives you access to unlimited tastings, which means you can sample your way through dozens of interpretations while chatting directly with the chefs behind them. It’s casual, interactive, and just the right amount of chaotic—in the best way possible.

"Beyond the brisket itself, the event leans into the full barbecue culture. Expect craft beer, whiskey pairings, and a lively crowd that ranges from serious foodies to industry insiders. There’s an energy here that feels distinctly New York—fast-paced, social, and unapologetically indulgent.

"For event planners and corporate hosts, Brisket King NYC also offers a glimpse into a different kind of experience design. It’s communal, experiential, and driven by authenticity rather than formality—something that continues to resonate with modern audiences looking for more than just a seated dinner.

"If you’re looking for an event that captures the intersection of food, competition, and culture, Brisket King NYC delivers. Just come hungry—and maybe wear something that can handle a little smoke."
