This month we are highlighting our Yirgacheffe Single Origin Coffee. Last year Sarina and Elias had the pleasure of visiting some of the farms we source our beans from. In Yirgacheffe, they met Mulugeta Kebede, a smallholder farmer. He first began farming on the land he inherited from his family, and now he has about 6.8 hectares (just under 17 acres) of land. Mulugeta has a message for YOU! ☕️✨

“I would like to tell people that coffee should not only be something they drink. I would encourage them to come and see where coffee comes from and how it is prepared. Come and connect with the farmer on his farm, witness the work behind, and enjoy a freshly brewed cup from the farmer’s home."

The story behind our iconic Addis Ababa Blend☕️🇪🇹 Named after our co-founder Elias’ hometown of Addis Ababa, this playful blend combines two iconic Ethiopian coffees. The dark Harrar and light Yirgacheffe blend is a nostalgic take on the home-roasted beans of Elias’s youth, a long and enduring tradition in Ethiopia.

Our Addis Ababa blend pays homage to a truly unique coffee city, where tradition and innovation coexist, perfectly at ease with one another. Coffee might be brewed slowly in the traditional clay 'jebena' coffee pot and poured into small cups called 'sini', or you might be served a pour over or espresso. In any case, what is constant is the communal nature of coffee, even in a fast-paced city like Addis Ababa.

This past August, our co-founders Sarina and Elias went back to Addis Ababa, the city where they first met and had coffee together. This short video, that takes you with them to the cafes, the street scenes, the jebena and sini.

Last summer we went back to Ethiopia to visit the farmers we source coffee from, and explore the possibilities for Buunni, in Ethiopia. If you've been following us for a while, you'll already know that Ethiopia is renowned as the birthplace of Arabica coffee, and it offers a rich coffee culture that builds community and connection.

During our travels, we visited coffee farms and cooperatives in the main coffee regions in the South and Southwest parts of Ethiopia. It was an immersive experience, and one that redoubled our belief in coffee as a vehicle for positive change -- in Ethiopia, as well as in Upper Manhattan/South Bronx, Buunni's home base in New York City.

We deepened our connection to the people behind the coffees that we so proudly stand behind. We were dazzled by the complex ecosystems of coffee as it is traditionally grown in Ethiopia. And now, we are delighted to share glimpses from our journey with you. (Full video in our YouTube Channel! )
