As we close our chapter with The Shillelagh, we want to share a few words of appreciation. Eight years is hard to sum up in one post, but looking back, we experienced the highest of highs and lowest of lows—and we wouldn’t trade it for the world. This place became part of our family, as did all of you, and we’ll miss seeing you every day.
Special thanks to our early supporters—Eileen, Gary, Harry, Popular Bob, Krysta, Billy (RIP), Rufus, Nikki, Martin, Yana, Kenn, Eli, Gerry. You didn’t know us, yet you welcomed us and trusted us with your local. To our fellow Astoria business owners who offered advice, lent us register tape or pitchers when we ran out, and connected us with plumbers and electricians—we are forever grateful. The way we came together and supported one another always amazed us. Best of luck in your continued ventures, and let’s all keep paying it forward by investing in local Astoria businesses. The Brewery, Max’s, Quay’s, Dillinger’s, Wolfhound.
To the Astoria music community—thank you for giving The Shillelagh the chance to showcase so much incredible talent over the years. We never took for granted that you had choices in where to bring your music. Special thanks to Miguel and the Astoria Music Collective, Larry and the Knuckledown Team, and GUI with the Punk Rock Saves Dogs Team.
To our amazing staff—we are forever thankful. You allowed us to start a family and raise two beautiful boys while running The Shillelagh these past eight years. Rusty, Erick, Joy, Patrick, Jeff, and John—thank you from the bottom of our hearts. It was a wild ride, and we feel lucky to have had you as part of the team for as long as we did.
To our family and friends—thank you for supporting us from the very beginning. And to the locals who became friends—we love you.
Finally, a special shout-out to the man who made The Shillelagh Tavern what it is today. Tim—you believed in this place day in and day out. Your love, hard work, and determination kept it alive even in the darkest times. Thank you for showing the boys that dreaming big and working hard truly pay off. What a run it’s been. We hope you know how proud we are of you, and how much we love you. xx T & K
