It was just a few short weeks ago that while the restaurants were buzzing we were abuzz with anticipation of best of New York issue and the inclusion of and in that issue. How quickly times have changed. But we are so thankful and inspired by this thoughtful reworking of the issue into the things we “hope to eat again soon”. The list is truly incredible and is a true testament to all the hard work, creativity, ingenuity, talent, magic and pleasure that goes into making our NYC restaurant scene so tremendous.
Swipe over to see beautiful glamour shots of the classic and a new classic, ( yes, tuna casserole! A comfort food classic informed by flavors of Spain, flavors of home, and our own ).
We look forward to the day we, and every other restaurant, reopen and can serve you all of these things !
Thanks to all who have donated to our gofundme ( link in bio) to help our staff with the crisis of unemployment.

The devastating impact of COVID-19 on our businesses cannot be overstated, and we are asking for your help to support our hardworking and dedicated team of 60. Many are friendly faces who you’ve gotten to know over the years, and many others work diligently and brilliantly just behind the scenes. Our first priority will be to support those who aren’t eligible for unemployment benefits and are in the most dire circumstances. Additional funds will be shared among all of the staff experiencing the intense strain of unemployment during this time of crisis and uncertainty. 100% of proceeds will go to our team.
We so appreciate your kindness and generosity, however big or small. Every dollar counts. We promise to celebrate and care for you when we resume operations. Thank you for all you have done for us over the last 12 years and all you are doing now.
To our dear friends and neighbors: Please help us support the… Alex Raij and Eder Montero needs your support for La Vara, Txikito, El Quinto Pino, & Saint Julivert

Dear friends and neighbors,
Thank you for your support in recent days and over the last twelve years at Txikito and El Quinto Pino. It is always a privilege to serve you and be part of your lives.
We have decided like our industry friends and community, that we need to close temporarily.
Local leadership we are sure will follow with this recommendation for all in our field but we feel given the intimacy of our restaurants the time is now.
Please know we wish we could continue to be the salve in difficult times as we have been on the past, but these time require compromises to our typical inclination to cook our way out of crisis. Still, this moment is just one challenge. There are many ahead. We promise to celebrate and care for you when we resume normal operations.
Our primary efforts@going forward will be to support our staff as best we can and planning for the day we can reopen while providing other forms of collective relief in our respective communities.
We will be reaching out with news soon. Please watch our social media outlets and websites for updates and opportunities for solidarity.
Please be safe and loving to one another.
- Alex, Eder, Rob and our Chelsea crew.
Thank you again for all you have done for us and for all you are doing now to spread kindness and joy.

Dear friends & neighbors,
A lot is in flux right now and we are doing our best to remain calm and take action to prioritize our community, health, and safety. We are making sure that our standard operating procedures regarding sanitation are being strictly upheld as well as carefully following heightened directives from the CDC and industry experts. We still have ongoing education with our staff on preventative measures regarding hygiene, sanitation and food handling.
The health and safety of our team, guests, and community are top priority so we will be taking additional precautions to make sure we are doing everything we can to keep everyone healthy ( and well fed)
- reducing seating capacity
- single use recyclable
- heightened protocol on all sanitation efforts including increased frequency of sanitizing all contact surfaces
- maintaining strict handwashing guidelines
- ensuring all staff stay home if they are not well
We also want you to take care of yourself and others! Please take great care of yourself and others and follow all the CDC guidelines.
In these times it can be confusing to know how yo best take care of yourself and other people. One way is to patronize small businesses when your healthy. We’re here to offer comfort, delicious food, and a bit of joy.
