Le Fond

Le Fond Le Fond is a European restaurant located on Norman Avenue in Brooklyn that serves humble yet modern market-driven French fare, with a focus on stocks as the foundation of their dishes. The restaurant's name comes from the French culinary term "le fond," which means "stock" and the wooden spoon depicted in their logo represents the tool used to scrape up those essential browned bits at the bottom of roasting pans for deep flavor.

We took this picture at our final service this past Saturday. I procrastinated doing this post because it’s been an emotional week and I couldn’t quite find the right words.

I just want to say that I’m going to miss this team, this place, this neighborhood, this community. Cooking for the fine people of Greenpoint has been the honor and the privilege of my career. Thank you for everything and please stay in touch.

There will be more posts from this account in the next couple weeks. I’ll be announcing something fun, something lighter, so please stay tuned for that.

Sincerely, Jake and the LF team

Hi everyone. I’m afraid I have some sad news to share today. After 9 years in business, I will be closing Le Fond at the end of October. I’ve had the most wonderful time cooking for you so this was a difficult decision, but there were a few factors that led me here.
For my whole career – for almost my entire adult life – there’s only been food, cooking, and restaurants. Over the past few years, I’ve had an opportunity to explore rural New York and I learned that I love nature. I’ve never really had interests outside of work until now and, basically, I want to go fishing more than once a week.
and I have daydreamed for years about doing a B&B or an inn sometime “in the future.” We just didn’t know where it would be or when the time would be right. Last year we realized that some friends of ours had a similar goal and we began to talk about whether we could make it work, together.
We learned of an available property in Sullivan County that seemed to meet nearly all our criteria. As my lease here at Le Fond is winding down, we decided to jump on the opportunity and buy the North Branch Inn, located just outside of Callicoon. Since I’m not the kind of chef who can do more than one thing at a time, I’m forced to close Le Fond and turn my attention to the new project.
Lastly, I want to let you know that there will be something good coming from all this for Greenpoint. I’m handing over the keys to my friend (and former employee) who will be launching a new concept in the Le Fond space for the remainder of the lease. Allyx is a fantastic chef and I’m a big fan of her cooking. I can’t wait to see what she has planned for .
Please stay in touch! I’ll only be two hours away. If you ever want to escape the city for the weekend, or if you want to get married in the Catskills, you’ve got a guy. Follow for updates. Thanks for the memories and love you all!
