This restaurant was founded in 1985 by my father with a vision of creating a place where people could experience true Italian hospitality and his cuisine. It may sound simple, but simple cooking, when made with the right products, and sometimes with the willingness to step slightly beyond strict purism, is where the magic happens: “La sofisticata semplicità della cucina italiana,” the sophisticated simplicity of Italian cuisine. Not much has changed since then. Our goal remains the same: to share authentic Italian cuisine and products with the care, tradition, and respect that define the food culture of Italy. Thank you to our entire staff for their dedication and hard work every single day. This recognition belongs to them as much as anyone. Together with our incredible team, we work every day to honor the vision and traditions this restaurant was built on. We are incredibly honored to be recognized by Gambero Rosso as one of the top Italian restaurants. This recognition means so much to us and motivates us even more to keep doing what we love. Grazie to everyone who has supported us along the way.
DAJE!

We’re just a small neighborhood restaurant with no press outreach. Just showing up every day, cooking the food we love, and taking care of our guests.
To be included in New York Magazine’s Top 43 Restaurants in the City means more to us than we can say.
Thank you to everyone who has sat at our tables, ordered amatriciana, shared a bottle, and made Sandro’s feel like home.
Grazie and grazie for 40 years serving you NYC ❤️

Grateful beyond words to be recognized by Gambero Rosso today. This honor belongs to my father, Sandro, who built the heart and soul of our restaurant. I wish more than anything that he were the one accepting this award, not me. His passion, dedication, and love for food continue to guide us every day. This is for him. ❤️ His standards will always live on in everything we do. We’ll keep doing what we love, just as he always did, and his spirit will continue to inspire us every step of the way.

Years ago, we were honored to be voted NYC’s best cacio e Pepe, a title we’ve proudly stood by. Recently, we noticed it wasn’t up to our usual standard. After careful consideration, we temporarily removed it from the menu. Now, with some adjustments, it’s back as a special, just how it used to be a few years ago.
We’re usually humble, but this time, we say it with complete sincerity. We truly believe it’s one of the finest cacio e Pepe dishes out there
