It’s been a little quiet on the social media end here and it’s because we’ve been busy toiling away on another project. Kelang.

Opening in December!

Kelang (these days, Klang) is the city our family hails from in Malaysia. 45 minutes from Kuala Lumpur - it’s lesser known than Ipoh and Penang. It isn’t as big or as pretty. But the eating is good. Tremendously so. And surprisingly distinct from other parts of Malaysia, which is why we wanted to make it our namesake. One of the things we would run into at chicken house would be folks thinking our take on one dish or another wasn’t “right” - turns out they just never encountered the version from our hometown before.

Our menu is inspired by a youth that involved copious amounts of Carribean, Italian-American, Chinese, and Malaysian food. Dark soy is our spirit animal. It’s the spirit animal of the city, along with minced chili padi, and obscene amounts of garlic.

Honestly there isn’t that much to do in our hometown except eat, which is why we think the food there is so good.

We look forward to serving folks at Kelang soon.

Hey folks, forget about running off to the country/beach/country-beach house this weekend. Come visit us at our brunch pop up instead this Saturday!

We’re featuring our Kaya, which is a loose spread made largely of pandan, eggs, and coconut milk that many folks grow up eating for breakfast in Malaysia. Toast, butter, Kaya, dipped into a half boiled egg…We’re really into how it pairs with Little Honey’s French toast and biscuits.

And if you don’t have a country/beach house to run off to don’t worry - We’ll be here for you!

Thanks to the for having us participate at their annual fundraiser. It was the first time for us and it was such a great group of students and restaurants! And what a location - some premium window light baby.

Our sous chef for the evening, Laura, was hilarious - we hope she had a great time helping us stir up some nasi ulam. We hope we can do it again next year.

Egg prices be damned! We’re running a silly mash up dish this weekend.

Moonlight hokkien mee - guanciale, thick soy, egg yolk, grana padano, fishball, fish cake and pork (pictured).

Hokkien mee is traditionally stir fried with pork oil and lardons - so we thought why not marry it with another pork fat laden classic?

Also:

Fried whole Red snapper with vegetable curry.

That’s it folks! Hope everyone’s enjoyed the cold, but we’re ready for a reprieve.

Longevity Yee Mee - Extra long noodles for long life! Mushrooms, brown tofu, yellow chives (classic, I love this all year round).

Steamed whole Western Cao - ginger, scallion, soy. Goes great with a glass of sake.

Steamed Shrimp with glass noodles - garlic, black pepper.

Cheers!

We’re doing a little spin on our of our favorites here for the holiday!

Chicken chili crisp liver mousse - chicken fat chili crisp laced with gribenes (crispy chicken skin bits), blend of alliums, Hainanese chicken liver mousse.

One of the nice parts about us going through tons of chicken is lots of extra bits to turn into fun things. Weeee! Not sure if this will be a permanent change or not yet. Let us know what you think!

Happy holidays folks - and a reminder we’ll be open for Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Yes, we’re gonna leave the Christmas decorations up till after the new year but take them down before 2026. We promise.
