For the last 5 years I’ve been the Chicken Guy, but occasionally I am also the Fried Rice Guy.
Turkey Bacon Fried Rice. I love pork and so do all Chinese people. So finding dumplings and fried rice without pork can be a challenge. But we heard you and we’re here for you. You can get a poultry-tastic experience at Pecking House, and who doesn’t love fried rice? Use it as a vehicle for all that extracurricular chili oil on the plate.

What a wondrous day honoring when a congress of white dudes signed a hypocritical, nation-birthing document because they were upset about some tariffs on tea. Remember that tariffs are your patriotic duty now. And remember we celebrate this day with alcohol and meat-eating. That’s democracy and we’d put it in a drone strike if we could.
But we support you not working on a federal holiday in oppressive NYC summer heat so ... come eat some fried chicken, bring some beers, let us cook. Or bring us to your rooftop grilling potluck. I am guessing it will be better than the hamburger that Bryce is grilling on that fire escape Weber kettle.

I think some people turn their nose up at the Chili Chicken Sandwich because they think it’s our fried chicken on Wonder Bread. And that this spongy ephemera Americans call bread would cling to the roof of their mouths like mortar, doing little to complement the zingy chili oil and crispy chicken.
In other words, “pass”.
True, we were inspired by the white bread that comes with Nashville hot chicken but Wonder Bread it is not! It is Japanese milk bread, or shokupan. It is white bread removed from the confines of capitalist constraints. It is white bread removed from needing an unnaturally long lifespan and supplanting riboflavin.
It is chewy, flavorful, substantial, and takes to butter like a duck-billed platypus does to water. It offers a delicate crisp when toasted and has the delectable pull of developed gluten thanks to its mixing method using a tangzhong — a gelatinized portion of starch cooked in milk to give bread an excellent texture.

PECKING HOUSE V2.83 — or whatever. I can’t keep track of how many patches and hot fixes we’ve had. That’s what happens when you start a restaurant during a generational pandemic.
Here’s a menu. It has tasty food on it. Read it and eat. And read between the lines for what direction we’re taking this Chicken Rocket.
As much as I loved so many of the dishes and techniques we’ve accumulated over the years, I found it time to get back to basics. Spicy, crunchy, tingly basics.
Freshly fried hot and hot chicken on gaudy Chinatown plates with rice, disposable chopsticks and dumplings. And a fun section for playing around and being creative.

Pecking House Chinatown will be CLOSED FOR TRAINING this Wednesday and Thursday, May 21 & 22. We’ll be back with a NEW MENU ON FRIDAY, MAY 23! Starting then, we’ll be open Monday-Sunday, 11am to 10pm.
We’ve had a lot of changes happen in the last couple of weeks for us. And we know there are a lot of questions. We posted a newsletter sharing everything we already know (we’re still working out some answers ourselves) that you can read via the link in our bio. But what’s important to know now is that we’re making some really EXCITING changes to our menu in Chinatown starting this week! (Don’t worry, the Sichuan Chili Fried Chicken and some other classics are always staying ♥️) But we’re taking this opportunity of change to get back to our roots and launch some cool menu items - we can’t wait to show you.
