8 ♾️ 🎱 years !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Halloweens marks a new year at playground. I am filled with gratitude for all the love and trust that has been bestowed upon us since we opened in 2016.
It’s eerie to think of the similarities between today and when we first opened our doors 8 years ago. We were on the precipice of a notorious presidency that would go on to make the evils perpetrated by this country even more public and all-consuming.
It became clear to us that being a part of this community required being a safe space, and we held a town hall the week following the election to address our community’s concerns face to face. This imprinted the legacy of our work and commitment to BedStuy.
Our mission is simple and straightforward: to listen to and learn from the systems that are around us, while supporting and making decisions to understand one another. To use this platform to share our stories and have honest, hard conversations is the devotion of Playground.
Through it all we remain open to every thing that comes our way- the good, bad, and ugly. It has been a blessing to be here 8 years later. From a hardware store, coffee shop to a restaurant, mutual aid hub, community, and as of recently, a wine bar!
Thank you to letting us take the shapes we have and for embracing the ones ahead.

Embracing September as we say goodbye to a sweet August.

These last few years have been monumental and it’s a pleasure to grow alongside our neighbors and friends.
