PizzaMoto

PizzaMoto PizzaMoto was a beloved pizza place and American restaurant that had been serving delicious, bubbly, char-kissed pizzas for 8 years out of their home-made welded steel arch mobile wood fired ovens. In 2017, the owners finally opened their first brick and mortar location in Brooklyn after discovering a turn-of-the-century coal oven hidden behind a wall in a dark storefront. They restored the oven to burn wood instead of coal and built a restaurant around this historic piece of New York which featured Moto’s signature Neapolitan style pizza as well as a full menu of other mouth-watering options. Unfortunately, PizzaMoto has since permanently closed.

As our magic pizza oven gets some much needed repairs this week we’ve been going through the archives. Built by the one and only Dave - our intrepid leader, scholar, idea man, funny guy. This was in 2012, when Brooklyn was in a real maverick moment, and the if you build it they will come vibe was alive and well. Davey embraced it and we are very stoked to still be stoking her fires.

What people say

PizzaMoto, located on Hamilton Avenue in Brooklyn, is a must-visit for pizza lovers. After 8 years of serving delicious wood-fired pizza out of their mobile ovens, PizzaMoto has finally opened its first brick and mortar location. Co-owners Dave Sclarow and Anna Viertel have truly created a unique dining experience by restoring a turn-of-the-century coal oven hidden behind a wall in the restaurant's storefront. The oven has been retrofitted to burn wood instead of coal, and the masonry and original cast iron details have been beautifully restored.

The restaurant's design is equally impressive, with Sclarow, Viertel, and sous chef Joe Bliffen executing all of the design, masonry, welding, plumbing, and finishing carpentry themselves. They even welded their own bar stools out of desks discarded from a nearby Red Hook Public School! The result is a cozy atmosphere that perfectly complements the delicious food.

Speaking of food, PizzaMoto's signature Neapolitan-style pizza is not to be missed. The bubbly crust with char-kissed edges is simply divine. But don't stop there - the full menu of small and large plates offers something for everyone. Whether you're in the mood for classic Italian dishes like spaghetti carbonara or something more unique like roasted cauliflower with tahini sauce and pomegranate seeds, PizzaMoto has got you covered.

Overall, PizzaMoto is an absolute gem in Brooklyn's dining scene. With its rich history and dedication to quality ingredients and craftsmanship, it's no wonder why this restaurant has become such a beloved spot for locals and visitors alike.
