Looking back at the past, both of us genuinely wouldn’t have known we would have came this far.
What started as just a passion and following our gut deciding to leave corporate and open a restaurant during the pandemic? We’re both kids of immigrants so leaving that stability was scary. Many told us we would fail but we trusted ourselves anyway. There were days where we both contemplated and wondered if this was the right thing to do.
But a tell for us was seeing our community come out and support us, meeting new faces everyday, being part of celebrations and being part of the highlight of people’s lives. These same people help spread the word and make The Monkey King what it is today.
Truly we are so grateful and we know we say this a lot but even words can’t describe about how thankful we are.
Thank you family❤️🫂

Good food, good drinks, and the kind of night that turns into one you don’t want to end. Sometimes the best plans are the simple ones — great dishes, great company, and a table full of flavors at The Monkey King.
Save this for your next NYC dinner and tag the person you’d bring with you.

five years ago, we didn’t know what this would become.
not the late nights,
not the lessons,
not the people we’d meet along the way.
we just knew we wanted to build something that felt real.
today, the monkey king is more than a restaurant.
it’s a reflection of who we are,
what we believe in,
and the community that grew with us.
to everyone who showed up, supported us, and stayed with us through it all —
this is yours too.
and we’re still just getting started.

This Mother’s Day, treat her to a table that’s already set.

It’s AAPT heritage month.
a time to celebrate asian american & pacific islander culture, stories, and community.
Today and every day, we honor the people, traditions, and experiences that shape who we are.
We’re grateful to be part of a community that continues to share, create, and inspire.
Culture is meant to be shared.

Nobody tells you what owning a restaurant actually does to you.

Self-care night idea.
Sometimes the best way to reset is simple — good food, a drink you love, and a little time to yourself. No plans, no rush, just enjoying the moment and treating yourself to something good.
If you needed a sign to take yourself out for dinner, this is it.
Save this for your next solo dinner night and tag someone who deserves a self-care night too.

day 2 of In Full Bloom 🌸
a night rooted in creativity, conversation, and community. from cake decorating with .co to a room full of energy brought together by .na & — this one meant something special.
thank you to everyone who showed up, created, and shared the moment with us. this is exactly what we imagined when we said culture is meant to be shared… and we’re just getting started.
special thank you to .co for capturing the night so beautifully, and to behind the bar — setting the tone, pouring with intention, and keeping the energy exactly where it needed to be.
more moments like this, soon.
