Happy belated 7th birthday Micah! 🌟 It was a blessing to make this special Mario themed cake for Micah as he has endured many serious health challenges at an early age but has now been thriving! Thank God for His continued healing and grace. 💗 I heard that the cake was a hit and was sooo good and that everyone enjoyed it as usual! 😁

Happy early 40th birthday to Jennifer! 🍓🎹🧁 She ordered this piano themed cupcake dessert and she was happy that I could make it a reality. She said, “Everyone could not stop raving about the cupcakes and the design. They agreed the design was totally me and everybody loved that the cupcake wasn’t overly sweet.” That’s the ultimate compliment coming from an Asian audience. 😁
The cupcakes are chocolate cake with Nutella buttercream and fresh strawberries. The piano keys are vanilla Kit Kats and chocolate Kit Kats which I cut to the correct size. The homemade sign is fondant with edible gold on top.

Happy Friday! Does this cake look reminiscent of a famous TV cake? 😅 I even left an empty space for the missing raspberry. I made this vanilla chiffon cake with jam, ube coconut buttercream, and fresh raspberries to bring to our friends this past weekend. I wanted to try the recipe from Sugarologie and the cake layers were fluffy and soft!

Happy weekend! 💖 It was Bread Week on The Great American Baking Show and for the signature challenge, bakers had to make a decorative focaccia. I have loved art all my life and when I was growing up, I had a poster of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers in my childhood bedroom. I took inspiration from it, and used bell peppers and red onions to create the design. The focaccia recipe is from Claire Saffitz and the crunchiness is so good! The finishing touch is Maldon salt sprinkled on top.

What happens when you’re a baker and you buy a huge bag of lemons from Costco? Haha you make lemon macarons! 😅 I am continuing to bake along with The Great American Baking Show and for Cookie Week, the bakers had to make macarons in different shapes. Check out the new season on The Roku Channel !
I made a zingy and delicious lemon curd, cream cheese buttercream, and used Pies and Tacos Swiss macaron shell recipe. I thought I should bake these longer since they were bigger but I did bake them a little too long so they’re crispier. 😂

It’s a beautiful cake for a beautiful day! 🍋🫐 We had a belated Mother’s Day celebration with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law’s family today. I made this lemon blueberry vertical cake since I was inspired by the Signature challenge from The Great American Baking Show ‘s first episode. There are vanilla cake layers with wild blueberry whipped cream and lemon cream cheese buttercream. My sister-in-law declared that this was the most delicious cake that I have ever made! She was fighting for an extra slice with my niece. 😂

The new season of the Great American Baking Show just came out on The Roku Channel ! It’s Prue’s last season of judging and Paul Hollywood is back with a double handshake! 🤝 I am baking along with the first technical challenge. I didn’t make the tuiles but I did make the yummy peanut butter chocolate lava cakes! Sooo delicious right out of the oven! ❤️

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers!! 💗 Thank you to my kids who let me sleep in late and to my husband who cooked breakfast. 😁 I am thankful for my mom who always has shown us love, generosity, and guidance through the years. We had a lovely time celebrating at her place with my siblings’ families. We had plenty of food, fun, and of course cake! 🎂

Have you heard of Smiski before? “Smiski are curious little creatures that love hiding in small spaces and corners of your room. Although they like to stay hidden, you might discover one at night as they mysteriously glow in the dark.” Thank you Brenda for ordering these cookies for your sister, Yesenia’s birthday! They both agreed it's such a bittersweet moment whenever they take a first bite because they look so cute but taste delicious. 🤤
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

This is the 2nd cake that I made to celebrate Our Saviour NY Rego Park’s 100th anniversary! It was a blessing to hear of God’s faithfulness through the joys and challenges of the church’s neighborhood ministry. God saved the church through the Great Depression and also through a time in the 2000s when there was no pastor and only 12 people were in the pews. Yesterday there were over 150 people at the celebration. Praise the Lord for His grace through the 100 years! 💗

What a blessing to celebrate the 100th year anniversary of Our Saviour NY Church in Rego Park ! God has been so faithful and it was wonderful to hear of how He has carried this church through its history. I wanted to bless the people of our congregation by making two special cakes to commemorate the occasion. 💗 Thank God for giving me strength, vision, time, and resources to complete the cakes. 🙏
This first cake is chocolate cake with Stonewall Kitchen raspberry jam filling and cream cheese buttercream. The logo is printed with edible inks on wafer paper from Ink 4 Cakes. The 24k edible gold leaf is from Barnabas Blattgold . I got many compliments that the cake was delicious!

They were awesome and very delicious. Thank you, my daughter loved them.” She sent me pics of her adorable smiling daughter with the cookies. 😀

This weekend we celebrated my brother’s 40th birthday with a special party! 🎉 My family just came back from our vacation in Hong Kong and we were all jet lagged. But I was still determined to make a cake with the energy and supplies that I had. My bro and SIL requested this delicious prosecco chiffon cake with black currant jam, prosecco pastry cream, and black currant buttercream. (Adapted from Helen Goh’s recipe) The front graphic is printed on edible paper with edible inks from Ink 4 Cake . Edible gold is from Barnabas Blattgold .
I’m thankful for my brother and I am proud to see how he has grown as a devoted husband to my SIL and a loving father of two kids. I also got to see a lot of friends from my old church and catch up with them. It was such a happy occasion! 💗

This past weekend was packed with fun activities, delicious food, and also times of reflection. I made this chocolate cake with pistachio cream and crunchy kataifi filling and chocolate Russian buttercream to bring to my friend, Ling’s place. This cake is decadent and delicious! I also brought cookies that I decorated, one of them being my favorite Sanrio character from my youth, Pochacco! Ling’s daughter saw the cookies and said they were impressive! 😁
The last photo is of my dad’s grave. My family and I went to visit it on Sunday. My mother remarked that it has been 10 years since he passed. I miss him and there are times that I like to think he’d be proud of all the desserts that I make. He enjoyed good food and also art so I think he would’ve enjoyed this cake too.💗

Time passes, but it’s such a blessing to see old friends! I was trying to remember when I had last seen my friend, Ling, and it might’ve been maybe like 6 years ago. Today, our families shared a delicious Korean bbq dinner and we reconnected. I brought this creamy and yummy Ube Tiramisu for dessert. Sweet times indeed. Next time we will not wait so many years to meet again. 💗

Happy Pi Day 🥧 and happy early St. Patrick’s Day! 🍀 Have you ever baked something and your partner took a bite of it before you took a photo? 📷
I left the pie in the kitchen and went to the other room to get my phone. I came back and noticed a crust heart was missing and my husband’s mouth was closed! I knew immediately that he took part of the crust and scolded him. Out of his mouth, the crust fell. 😂 Hahaha he felt bad that he almost ate part of it. Now he knows better. 😁
This apple pie recipe is from the cookbook, Elegant Pies. The only change I made was to add King Arthur Baking Company instant clearjel to the apples. The design was inspired by her heart pie crust.
Enjoy your weekend and have some pie for Pi Day!

Huzzah! 🎉 These special cookies were made to celebrate two siblings’ birthday party at Medieval Times! 🗡️🛡️ Thank you Ling for ordering these cookies with the black/gold/silver color palette. 50 cookies are a lot so I’m especially thankful to my daughter and husband who helped with painting on the silver and gold after I piped all the icing. Yay for teamwork! 😁

Happy birthday to Carter the Starter! ❤️ My sourdough journey began last year when a neighbor in my Buy Nothing neighborhood Facebook group gifted me her sourdough starter. Since then, I’ve gifted sourdough starter more than 10 times and more people still want it. I ran out of empty jars to put it in! 😅
This design was inspired by the basketweave design in a sourdough scoring article by Make It Dough on King Arthur Baking Company . I made hearts with a stencil and used Suncore Foods pink pitaya powder mixed with rice flour. The sourdough recipe is from Ya Mom's in the Kitchen .

Happy Chinese New Year! Continuing to celebrate with these Pompompurin new year’s cookies that I made. One of our traditions is to give red envelopes (hong bao) with money to our kids, relatives’ kids, and unmarried relatives. I used royal icing to pipe a tiny red envelope in Pompompurin’s paw. Since my husband is skilled at painting details on his game miniatures, I asked him to paint the Chinese character which means good fortune on them. 🧧
Have you heard of Pompompurin? Which Sanrio character is your favorite?

Happy Chinese New Year! 🧧I made these Bolo Bao Cookies (Pineapple Bun–Style Cookies) from a recipe from Rachel Lo. This brown buttery sugar cookie has a crispy, crackly topping. I learned the Hokkien word for pineapple, ong lai, sounds like “fortune has arrived” or “prosperity comes”. The bright yellow color symbolizes gold, wealth, and a sweet, bright future. 💛

Thankful for all the blessings this past year and thankful to celebrate my birthday today! ❤️ My husband surprised me with 2 bouquets of flowers and a card signed by him and our two kids. I received many messages of love from my family, friends, coworkers, and Bible study group. Haha many people asked if I make my own birthday cake and I said yes! 😁
I was catching up with a friend today and I told her how I had fallen down the stairs during Thanksgiving weekend and injured my tailbone. Getting older means it takes longer to recover. Little things like bending down to pick things up or even sitting for long periods of time became painful. Things that I took for granted. I thank God for healing me day by day and giving me strength. 🙏
“You are my God, and I will praise you; you are my God, and I will exalt you. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” Psalms 118:28-29 NIV

What people say
Just Add Kare is a dessert shop and restaurant located on Queens Boulevard that specializes in custom cakes, cupcakes, and choux au craquelin. Their ube cake with homemade mango curd and whipped cream is a must-try for anyone who loves this unique flavor. One satisfied customer ordered an ube birthday cake and cupcakes for her daughter's special day, which were frosted in whipped cream in purple and white with gold pearls. The family loved the ube flavor so much that the cake layers were also ube flavored, while the cupcake frosting was made with ube buttercream. Another impressive creation from Just Add Kare was their illusion cake inspired by ramen noodles, which was featured on the Great American Baking Show. Despite being pressed for time, the team at Just Add Kare managed to create a stunning cake with fondant noodles and various toppings held up by chopsticks. With such creativity and attention to detail, it's no wonder why Just Add Kare has become a go-to destination for dessert lovers in Queens Boulevard.
