It took a day to build the city
We walked through its streets in the afternoon
As I returned across the fields I’d known
I recognised the walls that I once made
I had to stop in my tracks for fear
Of walking on the mines I’d laid
And if I’ve built this fortress around your heart
Encircled you in trenches and barbed wire
Then let me build a bridge
For I cannot fill the chasm
And let me set the battlements on fire

Then I went off to fight some battle
That I’d invented inside my head
Away so long for years and years
You probably thought, or even wished that I was dead
While the armies all are sleeping
Beneath the tattered flag we’d made
I had to stop in my tracks for fear
Of walking on the mines I’d laid ProspectPark

Something special on the shelf this month, and we mean it.
Mano de Mujer comes from the women of COMSA in Marcala, Honduras. They own the farms they work. Coffee’s only part of it. They also keep gardens, chickens, a few cows, feed their families first, then sell what’s left to their neighbors at a market that runs every two weeks. The whole town shops there.
We roasted it light in Brooklyn so the fruit stays bright. Honey, red apple, tangerine. Organic, Fair Trade, single origin Honduras.
A reserve lot, so there isn’t much. 12 oz whole bean. Come grab a bag before it’s gone.

I was drawn to a sound
That the wind carried down
From an open window pane
And oh, how like a song
Or a sad melody
To linger long after the end
And the harmony rings
With the promise of spring

Ramadan Kareem to all our friends welcoming this holy month.

May this sacred time of reflection, mercy, and renewal bring peace to you and your loved ones. May it be a month filled with compassion, patience, and unity.

May this month also bring peace and dignity to all those who are oppressed across many lands, whether in Palestine, Sudan, Myanmar, or anywhere else in the world where people are suffering. May it also touch the hearts of the oppressors, guiding them toward remorse, justice, and compassion.

Ramadan Kareem. 🌙

We’re beyond excited to welcome **Virgins On Fire Candle Co.** to all All Poetica locations.

These aren’t just candles. They come with sharp wit, bold humor, and unapologetic attitude. We’ve spoken with founder Jesse in the past about working together, but the timing never quite aligned. Now the universe has decided it’s time, and we couldn’t be happier.

My personal favorite is “Scatter My Ashes on the F Train.” You’ll have to come in and find yours.

Virgins On Fire was launched in June 2020 with a mission rooted in creative and financial independence. It’s about shedding the 9–5 cubicle life, the endless meetings, the uninspired work, the low pay, and yes, whoever keeps microwaving salmon in the office kitchen.

This brand stands for buying the cabin, protecting your joy, queerness, freedom of thought, eccentric people, unique places, and funny ideas. It’s about liberation from the bu****it, pushing back against hateful laws, burning bras, and rejecting the “pure” life others expect you to live. It’s about igniting your own way forward.

A Jersey boy with a city attitude, Jesse runs Virgins full time. He graduated from **The George Washington University** with a degree in Political Science and Communications. Over the years, he has worked as a fundraiser for one of the country’s top art and design colleges, an administrator for NYC’s largest community-based food pantry, and a community organizer on two winning presidential campaigns.

Jesse lives in Brooklyn with his partner Ron and their rescue pup, Rockwell “Rocky” Rufferman.

He is also the author of *F*ck It, I’m Buying a Cabin*, published by Row House / 100 Block and distributed by **Simon & Schuster**, available wherever books are sold.

We’re proud to bring this bold, funny, freedom-loving brand to you. Find your favorite now at all All Poetica locations.

All Poetica locations are now carrying raw unfiltered honey from our friends few words about them:
“Beekeeping has been a part of our family since the 1800’s, when our family was hobbyist beekeepers. Our honey producing business was established in the early 1950’s in Dallas, Pa by my grandfather William Perry Sr. As the years went past, more and more hives were being kept due to the demand for American honey and we have eventually buzzed our way to thousands of hives. I eventually started The Beekeeper’s Daughter in 2012 to expand our own private label along with many other products from the hive, such as honey soda and creamy honey. What started out as a small business venture, has grown to become our family life.” We are excited to be carrying their products.

Every Poetica location now has Palestinian olive oil, zaatar, dukkah, spices, and olive oil soap, straight from Palestine.

In collaboration with Zeena Bakery, a woman owned business. We are very excited to share this with you.

Why this olive oil matters
Under the Israeli occupation, Palestinian olive trees have been uprooted and destroyed for decades. Millions of productive trees have been destroyed since 1967, including hundreds of thousands of olive trees.

Quick soap story
Nabulsi olive oil soap is one of Palestine’s most iconic traditions. Made after the olive harvest with olive oil, water, and lye, then stamped and stored to cure for months. Simple ingredients, deep history.

Available now at every Poetica location.

Meet our new drink, The Samarkand. A cardamom honey latte inspired by the city of Samarkand, and made possible by Malko Brothers Co on Atlantic Ave with their cardamom powder. Hope you will love it as much as we did making it for you.

12/15/2025

I was shopping for new drink ingredients and ran into this gentleman. When I told him I want 4 pounds of cardamom powder, he said “No”, “you don’t want 4 pounds, you want 1 pound, you use this when finish you come back I grind you more on that grinder over there.” As you can see, his demeanor is not one to negotiate with, so I agreed. Driving back home, I could not stop thinking: when was the last time I was buying something and the seller told me to buy less, not more? This shop is called Malko Brothers Co and located on Atlantic Ave between Clinton St and Court St. We will use their cardamom powder grounded with the grinder in the corner of their shop for our new drink. Starting next week.
