Hey Congressman Dan Goldman, we see that you stopped by our shop today for a coffee. Do you see how it doesn’t taste like genocide juice? Or are you still having a hard time telling the difference?
See, here at Poetica, we don’t serve racists, fascists, homophobes, genocide enablers, or anyone in between. Too bad we didn’t recognize you right away, or we would have turned you away. We issued you a refund—we don’t need your money (it’s probably coming from AIPAC anyways). Enjoy your loss on Tuesday. Don’t ever come to Poetica.

It took a day to build the city
We walked through its streets in the afternoon
As I returned across the fields I’d known
I recognised the walls that I once made
I had to stop in my tracks for fear
Of walking on the mines I’d laid
And if I’ve built this fortress around your heart
Encircled you in trenches and barbed wire
Then let me build a bridge
For I cannot fill the chasm
And let me set the battlements on fire

Then I went off to fight some battle
That I’d invented inside my head
Away so long for years and years
You probably thought, or even wished that I was dead
While the armies all are sleeping
Beneath the tattered flag we’d made
I had to stop in my tracks for fear
Of walking on the mines I’d laid ProspectPark

Something special on the shelf this month, and we mean it.
Mano de Mujer comes from the women of COMSA in Marcala, Honduras. They own the farms they work. Coffee’s only part of it. They also keep gardens, chickens, a few cows, feed their families first, then sell what’s left to their neighbors at a market that runs every two weeks. The whole town shops there.
We roasted it light in Brooklyn so the fruit stays bright. Honey, red apple, tangerine. Organic, Fair Trade, single origin Honduras.
A reserve lot, so there isn’t much. 12 oz whole bean. Come grab a bag before it’s gone.

I was drawn to a sound
That the wind carried down
From an open window pane
And oh, how like a song
Or a sad melody
To linger long after the end
And the harmony rings
With the promise of spring
On a Brooklyn street

Got that fresh cardamom delivery from the Malko brothers. Have you tried our drink? Rumors say it’s the best drink in New York. We don’t spread rumors, but... the rumors are 100% correct.
