Our Exceptional Coffee series features rare and limited availability coffees from producers we want to celebrate. While in Honduras this season we toured Edin Lopez’s variety garden, a proving ground for exotic and high-quality varieties under consideration for the main farm—his gesha being a standout among the already-productive plants.
Available now, only on website, and only for a very brief time.

[Exceptional Coffee: Edin Lopez Gesha] 🇭🇳 Grown on the Santa Bárbara Mountain in Honduras, this superb gesha is the work of Edin Geovany Lopez, a talented producer working with the renowned San Vicente dry mill.
With exceptional quality, clarity, and sweetness, this coffee represents some of our absolute favorite traits in specialty coffee. Edin’s thoughtful approach to processing yields a dynamic and subtly floral cup full of ripe summer fruit—think melon, strawberry, blackberry and peach, complemented by soft caramels.
This incredibly small lot is available on our website alongside brewing suggestions, details on the coffee, and more. Available now for a very short time in limited edition 6oz boxes ✨

Now Roasting: Brazil - Coração de Melão 🇧🇷
This coffee comes from Rio Brilhante, a sprawling farm in Brazil’s Cerrado Mineiro region. The Urban Family has partnered with our friends at Los Volcanes to experiment with new production methods and to identify consistent flavor profiles composed from different varieties and locations on the farm.
Coração de Melão means “melon’s heart” in Portuguese, referencing the sweet and tender center of the fruit. To us, this coffee has a dense sweetness like milk chocolate and hazelnut spread alongside subtle notes of dried apple and papaya.

Now Roasting: Peru - Lucía Muñoz 🇵🇪
This is our third season buying coffee from Doña Lucía, whose farm rests high in the mountains of Cajamarca Department. She cultivates an excellent mix of varieties which are harvested, wet processed, and dried with exceptional care.
During our visit last October we observed several signs of a quality farm—ample varietal diversity, ideal temperature contrasts between daytime and nightfall… and having a really good farm dog certainly doesn’t hurt.
This harvest we’re finding the coffee to be sweet, juicy, and high in clarity, with a flavor profile leaning towards mango and kiwi in addition to the usual milk chocolate and cherry. It’s a superb coffee from a delightful producer we’re proud to work with for yet another year.

Now Roasting: Burundi - Bavyeyi 🇧🇮
From the warm, red clay hills of Ngozi, this masterful natural process coffee is all strawberries 🍓, orange slices 🍊, and vanilla cream🍦
Bavyeyi means “parents” in Kirundi, and this group of about 600 producers is named to honor the many farmers in Burundi who cultivate coffee to pay for their children’s education.
We’re loving this coffee both hot and iced. Available now in our shops and online.

Edin is one of the many producers who sell coffee to Beneficio San Vicente in Santa Bárbara, Honduras. His farm, located near Lake Yojoa in the community of El Cedral, is planted with an excellent mix of varieties including bourbon, pacas, SL-28, and gesha.
This fully washed selection consists of 100% pacas, a compact variety similar to caturra. With a balanced, comforting flavor profile that’s excellent whether hot, iced, or cold brewed, we’re finding notes of milk chocolate 🍫, hazelnut, toffee, red apple 🍎, and pear 🍐

Good Food Awards Finalist ✨
We’re thrilled to share that our newest offering from Ethiopia, Suke Quto, is a finalist in the 2026 Good Food Awards.
The Good Food Foundation celebrates food and beverage products which are not only delicious, but socially and environmentally responsible as well. To advance to the finalist stage we received a high score in a panel of blind tastings, then passed a vetting process that evaluated everything from labor and environmental practices on the farm to waste reduction in our roastery and cultural awareness in our marketing efforts.
We’re honored to represent Tesfaye Bekele and Suke Quto in this capacity. This is truly an example of excellent coffee grown responsibly and in harmony with the natural environment.
Stay tuned while we await the announcement of this year’s winners!

Now Roasting: Ethiopia - Suke Quto, Washed 🇪🇹
Yet another gem from Suke Quto, this fully washed lot is an outstanding representation of a more classic Guji profile. Stone fruit 🍑, citrus 🍊, and floral honey 🍯 characterize the coffee, which is a finalist in this year’s Good Food Awards🏅
At its heart, Suke Quto is a forest conservation project. Founded by Tesfaye Bekele in 2000, the farm’s purpose is to use coffee agroforestry to protect trees in a region impacted by wildfires and deforestation. Now with more than 700 hectares of highland forest under preservation, it is an inspiring farm with a clearly positive environmental impact.
“When you buy coffee from Suke Quto, you are preserving nature,” Tesfaye says.

Los Tulipanes is back 🌷
A honey processed coffee from our friends at Cultivar Peru, returning for its second year.
Produced by the team at Cultivar using early-season deliveries from some of their partner farms, this lot consists of coffees from two different communities, processed individually with similar fermentation strategies, then combined afterwards. Expect a sweet, syrupy body with floral-toned fruit. We’re tasting dark chocolate🍫, bing cherry🍒, tangerine🍊, strawberry🍓, lychee, and rose🌹 in a cup that shines as both filter and espresso.
After visiting Cultivar’s Jaén warehouse this harvest and seeing their finite space firsthand, we’re all the more impressed with what they’ve been able to pull off with this coffee. We’re excited to offer Los Tulipanes for a second year and thrilled about another successful harvest working with this incredible, ambitious team. ✨🤝
Back for a limited time. Available online now.

Now Roasting: Colombia – Nuevo Horizonte
This selection of pink bourbon comes from Elmer Sarmiento of Santa María, Huila, where his farm, Nuevo Horizonte, sits at 2,000 meters of elevation. Elmer is one of roughly 200 producers in the community who sell coffee to Cuatro Vientos, our sourcing partners in the region. Though Santa María often flies under the radar, we consistently taste coffees here that rival the best lots from more widely known districts.
We began working with Cuatro Vientos about five years ago while searching for dependable volume coffees for Brooklyn and Flatiron, and year after year the quality from Santa María has stood out. This season, we set out to highlight a single producer who represents that excellence, and Elmer’s coffee was the standout on our recent visit to Huila. The farm’s name, Nuevo Horizonte, reflects the opportunities it creates for Elmer’s family, even as coffee must travel across the valley by cable cart from the steep slopes where it is grown.
Processed on the farm using a traditional washed method and dried in solar dryers, this pink bourbon is bright and sweet with high clarity. We’re tasting raspberry, cherry, pink lady apple, lemonade, brown sugar, and caramel. It has quickly become a favorite as a filter coffee.
