Twelve years as an architect. One bold decision to start over.
There comes a moment in life when the things you possess begin to possess you back; almost jailing you: your safe job, your level of comfort, predictability, and certainty. Erkan Emre chose to break free from that comfort to pursue a new path no one could promise would work. “I did not want to grow into an old man and never tried something new, something different.”
But ideas alone don’t replace the hard work needed to build things. Dreams don’t move on their own. They need care and attention.
It takes work; the unglamorous kind. Early mornings. Super long nights. Doubt. Sacrifice. Fear. Discipline. Relentless belief. And the courage to keep going when nothing is guaranteed and no one believes in you at the onset.
Nearly eight years later, Kotti Berliner Döner Kebab stands strong with 5 locations (and more to come!), an incredible team, and a growing community that believed alongside him. His journey is not about luck or chance; it is about taking risks, being willing to start from zero, and doing the work required to turn vision into reality.
His story is proof that freedom lives on the other side of fear.
That starting over is not failure, it is growth.
As a new year begins, let this be a reminder:
Be brave enough to begin.
Be disciplined enough to build.
And never let comfort talk you out of the life you’re meant to create.

To get to Albee Square West in Brooklyn, you can take the subway (A, C, F, R lines) and get off at Jay St-MetroTech station. From there, you can walk east towards Fulton Street and turn left onto Gallatin Place, which will lead straight to Albee Square West.
If you prefer driving, there are several parking garages nearby such as the one on 180 Livingston Street or 156 Lawrence Street. However, parking can be limited and expensive in this area.
Once you arrive at Albee Square West, both the German restaurant and Turkish restaurant are within walking distance.
